Position: Learning Support Assistant - (Autism Support)

GSL Education is working in partnership with a welcoming mainstream primary school in Brentwood that has a dedicated SEN provision on site. The school is seeking a committed and compassionate Learning Support Assistant to support a child with autism within this specialist provision.

This is a rewarding opportunity to work in a structured, well-supported environment where inclusion is at the heart of the school's ethos.

About the Role

As a Learning Support Assistant, you will provide focused support to a pupil with autism within the school's SEN provision. You will play an important role in helping the child access learning, develop communication skills, and build confidence in a safe and nurturing setting.

Working closely with the SENCO, class teachers, and other support staff, you will help implement personalised strategies and contribute to a consistent and supportive learning experience.

Key Responsibilities
  • Providing tailored support for a child with autism within the SEN provision
  • Supporting learning through structured and adapted activities
  • Promoting communication, social development, and emotional regulation
  • Encouraging independence and positive behaviour
  • Assisting with transitions and daily routines
  • Implementing strategies outlined in the pupil's EHCP and support plans
  • Working collaboratively with teaching staff and external professionals
  • Maintaining accurate records and contributing to progress reviews
The Ideal Candidate
  • Experience supporting children with autism and/or SEN
  • A calm, patient, and empathetic approach
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to build trusting, positive relationships with pupils
  • Confident supporting behaviour and emotional regulation
  • Passionate about inclusive education and pupil wellbeing
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
