Position SummaryUnder the general supervision of the Chief of Police or designee, ensures the safety and security of all tribal members by enforcing and upholding the tribal Constitution, customs, codes, and laws.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Directs activities of law enforcement officers; acts on behalf of the Chief of Police as required.
- Supervise and support the Sergeant(s), Officers, Conservation Officers, Animal Control Officer, Public Service Aide, Dispatchers, and any other staff under their command.
- Supervise, assist, assign, and track any special grants, enforcement projects, or special assignments.
- Supervise, maintain, and manage vehicle fleet, maintenance, outfitting, upgrades, and repairs.
- Supervise, maintain, and manage day-to-day operations and tasks assigned by the Chief of Police.
- Supervise, maintain, review, and manage in-vehicle/body camera videos and belt tape audio recordings established and used by the Department. Also, assist with providing copies of such audio and video footage for prosecution or public records requests according to laws, rules, policy, and procedures.
- Make recommendations to the Chief of Police, Sergeant, and staff in order to establish the best policies, practices, and procedures.
- Supervise, give direction, and ensure all subordinates follow rules, regulations, and directives according to policy and procedures.
- Assist subordinate officers with proper investigations, follow-up, and follow-through on criminal cases.
- Monitor the quantity and quality of work performed by subordinates.
- Completion and review of sergeants' and employees' evaluations under his/her chain of command.
- Supervise and conduct reports, citations, and record audits to ensure compliance with the report filing system.
- Supervise, complete, assign, and monitor administrative investigations assigned by the Chief of Police.
- Assist and support the Chief of Police with any other duties, tasks, or assignments.
- Assist and support all employees with any and all tasks.
- Protects the property and lives of community members by patrolling assigned areas and addressing any suspicious persons and/or establishments.
- Act, assist with Employees' concerns, problems.
- Conduct internal inquiries, investigations, and make recommendations.
- Create, supervise, maintain, and manage work schedules, approve leave, and ensure shift coverage.
- Conducts investigations in traffic, burglary, or reported incidents as required.
- Responds to all reported incidents and makes arrests as required by applicable laws.
- Conducts routine checks of local businesses, residences, and government agencies.
- Maintains a positive relationship with community members and agencies by educating and informing on crime prevention and related issues.
- Transports violators to and from court, rehabilitation sites, or jail facilities. Serves court papers, subpoenas, or Tribal documents as required.
- Maintains appropriate documentation on incidents as required by policies and procedures. Generate reports as needed.
- Prosecutes cases during trial in tribal or other jurisdictional Courts.
- Administers Breathalyzer tests on probation clients as required by the Courts.
- Communicate with local, state, regional, and outside agencies and assistance as needed.
- Assists with dispatching calls and training of new law enforcement officers.
- Ensures the safety and accuracy of all crime-related evidence through appropriate logs and safekeeping. Presents and eliminates evidence as required by the Courts.
- Track, issue, and maintain equipment inventory.
- Perform responsible duties related to crime prevention and community relations programs.
- Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as required.
- Maintains confidentiality of all privileged information.
- Performs other duties as assigned or required.
- Be certified as a police officer and pass the physical efficiency battery test.
- Able to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw conclusions.
- Strong analytical, interpersonal, leadership, negotiating, and problem-solving skills.
- Certified in first aid and CPR.
- Demonstrate and promote community policing concepts, policy, and participate in community meetings and events.
- Knowledgeable in the use and operation of all equipment, including Radar, Laser, and computer software etc.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Able to handle multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and work under pressure.
- Knowledge of all tribal, state, and federal laws.
- Able to handle firearms and "less-than-lethal" weapons.
