Role overview and purpose: Under the direction of the Chief Operating Officer, the Senior Director of Philanthropy provides visionary leadership and strategic direction for Neighborhood Healthcare’s philanthropic initiatives, including capital campaigns, endowment growth, and planned giving programs. This position focuses on cultivating transformational donor relationships, mentoring the development team, and driving innovative strategies to achieve sustainable philanthropic growth. The Senior Director collaborates closely with organizational leadership, Philanthropy Council members, and community partners to strengthen Neighborhood Healthcare’s presence, foster community engagement, and secure critical funding to advance the organization’s mission.
Responsibilities- Lead strategic fundraising initiatives: set the strategic vision for major gifts, planned giving, capital campaigns, and annual giving; operate in the five key areas of philanthropy—identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of the donor base.
- Develop and implement operational plans targeting philanthropic growth; build a roadmap for sustainable revenue generation through diverse funding streams (individual, corporate, and foundation giving).
- Provide leadership for capital campaigns: design and oversee feasibility studies, donor prospecting, execution, and completion; partner with staff and committees to meet or exceed goals.
- Build and strengthen donor relationships: identify and cultivate private and corporate donors; cultivate, solicit, and steward relationships with major donors, corporate partners, and foundations to secure gifts.
- Expand endowment and planned giving programs: grow endowment and planned giving with community and employee participation; build sustainable funding models aligned with long-term goals and donor interests.
- Oversee high-level donor stewardship and recognition programs: lead donor recognition programs and ensure personalized, high-touch donor communication.
- Collaborate with NH leadership and Philanthropy Council: work with NH staff, Philanthropy Council members, and committees; provide training and guidance to Executive Leadership and Council members as ambassadors for fundraising.
- Drive innovation and best practices in philanthropy: use data-driven strategies to enhance donor engagement; stay informed on industry trends and introduce forward-thinking practices.
- Align fundraising with brand and mission advancement: serve as an ambassador for the organization and collaborate with marketing/communications to create impactful fundraising messaging.
- Guide strategic donor events and campaigns: oversee donor-focused events and ensure alignment with philanthropic goals and engagement opportunities for donors.
- Monitor and report fundraising performance: develop metrics and provide executive-level reports on achievements, opportunities, and challenges; ensure accountability and transparency.
- Lead budget planning and resource allocation for the development department; identify opportunities to maximize efficiency and ROI.
- Provide leadership, management, and supervision: mentor the development team, monitor progress, ensure alignment with strategies, manage workflows, and oversee staffing and evaluations as needed.
- Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience required
- 8 years of progressive leadership experience in fundraising, advancement, or external affairs
- Experience in multi-cultural healthcare organizations is highly desirable
