Overview
A short-term contract opportunity is available for a licensed pharmacist to support pharmacy operations in Escondido, CA. This role involves a comprehensive scope of pharmacy duties, primarily focused on long-term care prescriptions and patient medication management. The assignment is set for four weeks and includes second shift hours with rotating weekend coverage.
Key Responsibilities- Accurately accept and dispense prescription medications following legal and safety standards.
- Monitor patient medication adherence and identify patterns of overuse.
- Ensure prescribed medications are appropriate for each patient.
- Maintain confidential patient records and pharmacy documentation.
- Counsel patients on medication usage, potential side effects, and answer their inquiries.
- Provide consultations on prescription and OTC medications, including dosage, storage, side effects, and interactions.
- Offer additional patient services such as smoking cessation support, blood pressure, and cholesterol monitoring.
- Educate patients on the use of medical devices like glucose meters and blood pressure monitors.
- Compound and prepare sterile solutions as required.
- Supervise pharmacy staff including technicians and clerks.
- Manage pharmacy inventory of medications and medical supplies.
- Collaborate effectively with healthcare team members including physicians and nurses to address drug-related issues.
- Active California pharmacist license in-hand.
- Experience in retail pharmacy preferred; training provided for retail pharmacists new to long-term care.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to work well within interdisciplinary healthcare teams.
- Second shift: 2:30 PM to 11:00 PM
- Rotating weekends
