Position Summary

The Primary Care Physician diagnoses and treats diseases and injuries of human internal organ systems and delivers preventive and therapeutic treatment of primary care needs, including chronic disease management. The role involves routine physical examinations, non‑invasive treatment, and strong communication with team members to meet Patient Aligned Care Team metrics.

Core Responsibilities

  • Actively diagnose and treat veterans.
  • Examine patients for symptoms of organic or congenital disorders, determine nature and extent of injury/disorder, and perform comprehensive physical examinations.
  • Develop and implement patient management plans and assist in providing continuity of care.
  • Order and perform diagnostic tests.
  • Prescribe medication and recommend dietary and activity programs as indicated by diagnosis.
  • Counsel patients on the use of prescription medications, educate patients, assess mental health issues, and provide routine health maintenance.
  • Evaluate patients' records from medical providers outside the VA and work with these patients utilizing VA co‑managed care rules.
  • Complete all clinical reminders due at each patient visit.
  • Document the medical record within 24 hours of a patient encounter.
  • Solicit medical management consult or input when appropriate.
  • Comply with all VA guidelines regarding patient requests, alerts, consults, orders, lab results, and diagnostic studies.
  • Follow the VA formulary process and consult protocols.
  • Collaborate with mid‑level providers where appropriate.
  • Ensure timely completion of all clinical documentation by close of business.
  • Address clinical needs of walk‑in/triage/urgent care patients.
  • Participate in all VA and company training requirements.
  • Fulfill women's health certification and competency requirements.
  • Maintain compliance with OIG, JC, EOC oversight, lab compliance, and related items.
  • Maintain focus on achieving excellent clinical outcomes through VA guidelines.
  • Provide excellent customer service to veterans, colleagues, and clinic visitors.
  • Participate in the clinic’s outreach events to support enrollment initiatives.
  • Support patient enrollment and retention, advising on scheduling, follow‑up visits, or nurse visits.
  • Embrace and support new initiatives, executing key strategic initiatives that drive Valor’s success.

Qualifications

  • 4+ years of clinical medical practice; government healthcare environment preferred.
  • Doctor of Medicine or Osteopathic Medicine degree.
  • Board certified in family practice or internal medicine.
  • Credentialed and maintain good standing through the Veterans Health Administration (VA).
  • Maintain a valid, unrestricted license in the state of desired employment or any U.S. state/territory as required.
  • Current certification in Basic Life Support (renewed per agency requirements) and ACLS.
  • Current, unrestricted DEA registration.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English.
  • Excellent computer skills.
  • Energetic and optimistic demeanor.
  • Strong service mentality and focus on defined service standards.
  • Safety‑sensitive position.
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible Medical Doctor with or without U.S. residency and current U.S. work visa.
