Summary

The selected applicant will be responsible for initiating the mortgage process for members, preparing, analyzing, and verifying mortgage loan applications for the purchase or refinance of real estate. Must be able to identify and analyze members needs to recommend mortgage options and services with a full understating of mortgage products, pricing, and documentation required. Commands a thorough knowledge of the lending process from application to closing, adhering to regulations and Credit Union policy.

Remains knowledgeable about secondary market offers. Can clearly and effectively communicate with members, all levels of staff in oral and written form and is proficient with applicable technology.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities

Interviews loan applicants to develop information concerning their loan needs, earnings, and financial condition. Explain loan programs to members, evaluates their needs, and recommends loan options. Works both in house and secondary market mortgages and is knowledgeable of changes in rules, regulations, and best practices for various mortgages. Works in conjunction with Mortgage Processors to collect supporting documentation and set closing dates.

Is aware of departmental and company wide goals and is able to prioritize work to achieve funding goals. Is fully familiar with underwriting philosophies, lending decisions (approved, denied or conditioned), approval stipulations, loan products and services, credit bureau reports and scores, credit histories, applicable federal regulations, mortgage protection insurance, loan rates and lending policies and procedures. Prepares and/or reviews all loan documents for completeness and accuracy, Establishes the terms and conditions of an approved loan and reviews them with the member.

Develops and maintains contacts with local realtors, developers and builders to promote and encourage the use of credit union services for residential mortgages, helps with training new employees in the department and performing other job related duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Skills

Experience - Three years to five years of similar or related experience.

Education - (1) A two-year college degree, or (2) completion of a specialized certification or licensing, or (3) completion of specialized training courses conducted by vendors, or (4) job-specific skills acquired through an apprenticeship program.

Interpersonal Skills - Work involves much personal contact with others inside and/or outside the organization for the purpose of first-level conflict resolution, building relationships, and soliciting cooperation. Discussions involve a higher degree of confidentiality and discretion, requiring diplomacy and tact in communication.

Other Skills - Must be accurate with numbers, managing files and records, and other loan office procedures and terminology. Ability to operate general office equipment, such as computers, calculators, copiers, scanners, and computer keyboarding skills. Has a general understanding of Credit Union operations. Maintains confidentiality related to Credit Union operations and work-related information. Must have good communication skills.

Physical requirements - Sedentary work: must be able to sit for long periods of time in a day, possess hand, wrist, and finger dexterity to use keyboard, phone and calculator in a repetitive manner throughout your scheduled time, and the ability to view a computer monitor throughout your scheduled time.

Availability - Must be available to work from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. M-F and Sat. and work a flexible schedule. May be required to work at other branches and have the ability to travel to and from those branches.
