UPMC Hamot, a Magnet®-designated hospital, is seeking a dedicated Full-Time Senior Professional Staff Nurse to join our 6 Main team.

About 6 Main:

6 Main is a same-day surgery unit within the Cardiac Cath Lab, providing both pre‑procedure and post‑procedure care for patients across all service lines. This small, fast‑paced, highly team‑oriented unit supports multiple specialty areas and plays a vital role in smooth, efficient patient flow throughout the hospital.

Nurses on 6 Main are responsible for:

+ Admitting patients and preparing them for procedures

+ Providing post‑procedural care, education, and discharge teaching

+ Supporting Phase II recovery for PACU patients

Experience:

Two years of nursing experience is highly preferred.

Generally, Monday-Friday, 12‑hour shifts, with occasional weekend call that is rotated among staff.

About the Senior Professional Staff Nurse Role

The Senior Professional Staff Nurse is a Registered Nurse and an integral member of the care delivery team. In this role, you will:

+ Lead by setting the standard for quality and level of care

+ Provide patient care using independent judgment, communication, and collaboration

+ Manage care for a group of patients and their families

+ Participate in practice improvement and process initiatives

+ Build strong, collaborative relationships with physicians, care teams, patients, and families

+ Demonstrate leadership, partnership, and mentorship within the unit

+ Show commitment both to the nursing profession and to the community

Responsibilities:

+   Performs in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors.

+ Applies the nursing process within the framework of Relationship Based Care to create a healing environment.

+ Formulates daily goals and a plan of care for patients that involves the patient as partner and considers the individual needs of the patient in a holistic manner.

+ Practices solid communication skills, and is able to articulate and translate the patient's condition to other care providers and to negotiate and make recommendations for changes in patient care and unit practices.

+ Patient documentation is comprehensive and promotes communication between caregivers.

+ Demonstrates critical thinking in the identification of clinical, social, safety, psychological and spiritual issues for the patient care within an episode of care.

+ Incorporates national professional organization as well as business unit and health system's goals to improve patient safety, quality and satisfaction of the patient experience in daily work.

+ Creates a caring and compassionate patient focused experience by building healing relationships with patients, families and colleagues.
