The UPMC Hamot CVICU is a 16-bed unit on the second floor of the new patient care tower. The exceptional care provided in this unit contributes to UPMC Hamot's certification as a Comprehensive Cardiac Center and Comprehensive Stroke Center. CVICU also holds the distinction as a Gold Level Beacon Award of Excellence recipient, representing not only excellence in patient care but also an incredible work environment.

+ Cardiac Surgery: CABG, MVR, AVR, TVR, TAVR
+ Thoracic Surgery
+ Vascular Surgery and Minimally Invasive Interventions
+ Cardiogenic Shock
+ Cardiac Arrest and Critical Arrhythmias
+ Cardiac Assist Devices (IABP, Impella)
+ Ischemic Strokes
+ Hemorrhagic Strokes (without intervention)
We are currently recruiting for an experienced, caring, compassionate nurse with a passion for learning who excels in critical thinking.
This position is full-time, rotating day and night shifts.

Purpose:
The Professional Staff Nurse is a Registered Nurse who plays a key role in delivering high-quality patient care. They are accountable for setting care standards, managing patient care, and collaborating with healthcare teams. This role involves leadership, communication, and partnership with patients, families, and other providers to ensure optimal outcomes. The nurse also demonstrates a strong commitment to both the community and the nursing profession.
Responsibilities:
+ Builds strong internal and external relationships through accountability, enthusiasm, and commitment. Promotes cultural awareness and healthy peer interactions.
+ Maintains work-life balance and models healthy habits and time management. Reports workplace safety hazards to peers and management. Applies adult (or pediatric) learning principles in patient, family, and staff education.
+ Provides thorough teaching to support patient transitions and care understanding.
+ Supports development of students and new staff; may act as a preceptor. Encourages open dialogue and continuous improvement through feedback. Uses the nursing process and Relationship-Based Care to create healing environments.
+ Develops patient-centered care plans with holistic consideration. Demonstrates critical thinking in identifying diverse patient needs.
+ Communicates effectively with care teams and documents comprehensively. Aligns care with organizational and professional goals to enhance safety and satisfaction.
+ Builds compassionate, healing relationships with patients, families, and colleagues. Commits to ongoing professional development and quality improvement.
+ Participates in shared governance and supports change initiatives. Acts as a collaborative and responsive care team member.
+ Engages in unit-specific quality improvement and identifies improvement opportunities. Uses evidence-based practice and research to enhance clinical care and patient outcomes.
+ The individual must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and/or interact appropriately to the ages of the patients served by his/her assigned unit as specified below.
+ They must also demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patients status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patients requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs and to provide the care needs as described in the department policy and procedures.
+ One to two years of experience. BSN preferred.
+ Ability to establish and maintain positive, caring relationships with executives, managers, physicians, non-physician providers, ancillary and support staff, other departments, and patients/families.
+ Ability to work productively and effectively within a complex environment, handle multiple/changing priorities and specialized equipment.
