Role Overview
As a Band 3 Healthcare Assistant in Gynaecology Outpatients, you will play a vital role in supporting the delivery of high-quality, patient-centred care. Working under the supervision of registered nurses and clinicians, you will assist with clinical and administrative tasks to ensure smooth patient flow and a positive experience.
Key Responsibilities- Prepare clinic rooms and equipment, ensuring they are clean and ready for use.
- Assist patients during consultations and minor procedures, providing reassurance and maintaining dignity and confidentiality.
- Take observations (blood pressure, pulse, temperature) and record vital signs accurately in patient notes.
- Assist with chaperoning during intimate examinations and other procedures.
- Collect and label specimens; support clinicians during procedures such as coil fittings or biopsies, and perform urine and pregnancy tests.
- Manage stock levels for consumables and maintain the cleanliness and organisation of clinical areas.
- Perform infection control measures, cleaning clinical areas between patients and adhering to hygiene protocols.
- Update electronic patient records, book follow‑up appointments and liaise with reception, nursing and multidisciplinary teams to support smooth clinic flow.
- Escalate any concerns promptly to qualified staff.
- Provide basic health information and signpost patients to appropriate resources when needed.
- Support the development of a professional and caring atmosphere promoting the Trust’s values.
- Adhere to health and safety standards, infection prevention and control, and confidentiality regulations.
- Excellent communication skills and empathy.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced, busy outpatient environment.
- Teamwork and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.
