Position Summary
Position Summary This position administers professional and technical urgent care nursing in the Grant County Corrections Center, a maximum-security facility. This position is responsible for providing a wide variety of nursing and medical care to a diverse adult inmate population assuring that all standards of care are fulfilled.
This position is scheduled eight (8) hour shifts Tuesday through Saturday, typically working 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM. The schedule may require occasional after hours and weekend shifts. This position may be responsible for taking phone calls to provide consultation on the weekend and after hours to Corrections Staff Members.
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe following examples of duties and accountabilities illustrate the general range of tasks assigned to the position but are not intended to define the limits of required duties. Other essential duties may be assigned consistent with the general scope of the position. Employee must comply with all County and department policies, procedures, WAC’s, or other regulatory bodies.
- Provide first aid, basic emergency treatment, and life support for medical emergencies.
- Respond to all medical emergencies in the facility.
- Monitor patients in crisis cells and medical cells.
- Dispense medication as needed.
- Perform initial medical evaluation of patients; record patient history.
- Triage patients for sick call.
- Perform medical tests as prescribed.
- Provide medical preparation of patients for the practitioner.
- Accurately document medical information and procedures.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with County officials, employees and the general public.
- Maintain regular, predictable and punctual attendance during regularly-scheduled work hours at assigned worksite.
- Meet travel requirements of the position.
- Perform the physical requirements of the position; work within the established working conditions of the position
- Consults with pharmacists and primary medical providers regarding medication management for individuals served.
- Refers individuals to primary medical providers as appropriate.
- Reviews and interprets lab reports. Follows up on significant lab findings.
- Assures that all documentation and records meet Washington Administrative Code (WAC), Revised Codes of Washington (RCW), and all other applicable County requirements.
- Develops and maintains professional working relationships with community hospitals and other medical providers to ensure quality of care and the timely resolution of problems.
- Assures services are provided which support the individual’s rights and are compatible with the particular culture and primary language of the individual.
- Actively participates in training and other meetings, whether in or out of office, as assigned.
