Overview
Substation Engineer I-V role at Grant County Public Utility District (Grant PUD).
Position SummaryBe part of a Power Delivery team responsible for designing, developing, implementing, and maintaining electrical equipment within Grant County PUD’s transmission and distribution facilities. Provide knowledge and expertise related to substations, transmission and SCADA automation and other supporting facilities within Grant PUD’s Power Delivery Department.
Essential Functions / Responsibilities- Demonstrated commitment to Grant PUD’s mission, vision, values, strategic plan, and Code of Excellence; align behavior with organizational priorities.
- Understand and adhere to compliance requirements for this position (laws, regulations, security guidelines, Grant PUD policies & Procedures).
- Operate a GPUD vehicle for business purposes as needed in accordance with Vehicle/Asset Usage Policy.
- Participate in safety programs: follow safety policies, report hazards, incidents, and close calls within 24 hours, and act on feedback regarding safety performance.
- Support onboarding, mentoring, and training for less experienced team members.
- Perform related duties as required or assigned.

QualificationsRequired Qualifications:
- Engineer I– Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or engineering technology field OR 4 additional years of relevant experience in lieu of degree.
- Engineer II– Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or engineering technology field OR 4 additional years of relevant experience; 1 year of Electrical Engineering or Engineering Technology field experience.
- Engineer III– Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or engineering technology field OR 4 additional years of relevant experience; 3-5 years of relevant utility work experience or equivalent.
- Engineer IV– Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or engineering technology field OR 4 additional years of relevant experience; 6 years of relevant work experience in Utility Substations applications.
- Engineer V– Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or engineering technology field OR 4 additional years of relevant experience; at least 10 years of relevant work experience in Utility Substations applications.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Washington State Engineering in Training (EIT) certification (for some levels).
- Master’s Degree.
- Professional Engineer (PE).
- Knowledge of NERC standards and regulatory compliance; familiarity with NEC, IEEE, NFPA standards.
- Ability to read, interpret, and modify one-line diagrams, substation drawings, AC/DC schematics;
AutoCAD experience is a plus. - Strong planning, organizational, and project management skills; ability to work independently or in a team.
- Field and construction environment adaptability; effective problem solving and critical thinking; strong written and oral communication.
- Position may be eligible for partial hybrid work.
- Work primarily in an office with some field activities; may involve heavy equipment and field conditions.
- Typical shifts: 8, 9, or 10 hours; refer to Physical Capacity Evaluation (PCE).
