The Histology Technician assures the proper preparation of pathology specimens for gross and microscopic examination by a Pathologist. Adheres to National Patient Safety Goals as appropriate based on the level of patient contact this position requires. Position DetailsPRN - Days - Histology Tech - Integris Health Enid Hospital
- Associate degree in Histotechnology or 2 years histology experience preferred
- Must be able to communicate effectively in English
- Prepares specimens for analysis and reference testing
- Operates all histology equipment
- Maintains records for all aspects of the department
- Assists pathologists as needed
- Keeps quality control logs and schedules repairs and cleaning as required
The Histology Technician reports to the Histology Tech Team Lead. This position may have additional or varied physical demand and/or respiratory fit test requirements. High exposure to hazardous risks, including potential for exposure to infectious and communicable diseases, blood, tissue and body fluids, electrical equipment, chemicals.
Potential for bodily injury related to lifting. Continuous exposure to disagreeable elements such as blood, fumes and odors. Must wear protective clothing. Requires definite skilled and accurate manual operations in order to coordinate performance to accomplish delicate manipulations, to operate a variety of instruments, must be able to operate a computer keyboard and write. Must be able to see and distinguish colors.
Repetitive motions required (rotating of wrist approximately 1500 times a day, flex/extend elbow 200 times a day) for slide preparation.
