Position: Highway Maintenance Specialist - Kremmling ($1000/mo housing & CDL Required)

Applications will be considered from residents and non-residents of Colorado. Total annual compensation for this position is $65,400 ($53,400 base pay and $12,000 housing stipend). Base pay is $2,053.85 biweekly ($53,400 annually). The position also offers an additional $1,000/month housing stipend, an annualized hourly rate of $25.68, and an overtime rate of $38.50/hour.

Description Of Job What You Will Do

No two days are exactly the same in CDOT highway maintenance. Your daily work activities change based on project needs, weather, environment, and road conditions. You will be on‑call on a rotating basis and may be required to respond to weather and other emergencies. You will typically work in a team environment, as each maintenance patrol location has at least one lead highway maintenance specialist and multiple specialists.

  • Plow snow
  • Operate heavy equipment, such as tandem dump truck, loader, tractor mower, etc.
  • Mow grass and weeds
  • Remove debris from roadways, including rock, mud, and deceased animals
  • Remove debris from culverts, tunnels, etc.
  • Shovel gravel, sand, concrete, and asphalt
  • Dig ditches
  • Install and repair guardrail, highway markers and signs, warning signs, and lighting
  • Fill potholes and roadway cracks
  • Set out signs and cones for traffic control
  • Remove and cover graffiti
  • Install pavement markings/striping
  • Stop or slow traffic in emergency situations
  • Maintain equipment and perform minor repairs
  • Follow safety guidance and wear proper safety equipment

Your Work Environment
  • Exposure to loud noise
  • Exposure to fumes, odors, gases, dusts, etc. that may affect breathing, eyes, and skin
  • Required to use appropriate personal protective equipment
  • Required to work with chemicals and cleaning products
  • Some equipment requires the use of respirators
  • Work near traffic, sometimes high‑speed traffic
  • Use ladders and scissor lifts for heights of approximately 10′–20′
  • Required to drive CDOT vehicles
  • Frequently respond to emergencies outside regular work hours and may work overtime including weekends and holidays
  • Must be willing and physically able to work in extreme temperatures (hot and cold), variable weather conditions, and at elevations up to 12,000 feet for long periods
Minimum Qualifications

Must have at least two (2) years of physical labor and/or heavy equipment operation experience.
