Developer Advocates at Datadog are engineers who share their expertise with practitioners across the community – customers and non‑customers alike. As an Engineering Manager on the Advocacy team, you will be a key people‑ and technical leader, managing a small team of Developer Advocates focused on Application Development and Performance.
What You’ll Do- Lead a team of Developer Advocates, guiding their work priorities, identifying new career opportunities, and fostering a positive, high‑performance culture.
- Contribute to defining the team’s OKRs (objectives and key results) and strategy, driving the execution of these.
- Ensure your team consistently ships high‑quality output, removing technical and procedural roadblocks to help them do their best work.
- Strike a balance between management and hands‑on delivery, contributing high‑quality technical content (e.g., videos, talks) as needed to support the team, represent Datadog, and stay in touch with the work.
- Work across various internal teams, including Product, Engineering, and Marketing to ensure they are supported across the growing number of Advocacy initiatives and help prioritize requests.
- You are a former software developer, SRE, or other technical practitioner with strong technical judgment and experience building or maintaining production systems.
- You have 2–5 years of experience managing a small team, coaching their performance, guiding their career journey, and breaking down complex projects into achievable plans.
- An experienced and respected developer advocate, skilled at reaching software developers across multiple channels, such as written content, conference talks, workshops, live streaming or recording videos, contributing to open source, and participating in community events.
- You are comfortable with at least two programming languages (e.g., Python, Go, Node.js, Bash) and are familiar with modern infrastructure such as IaaS cloud services and containers.
