Beehive Industries is dedicated to Powering American Defense by revolutionizing the design, development, and delivery of jet propulsion systems to support the warfighter. Through the integration of additive manufacturing, the company aims to meet the growing and urgent needs for unmanned aerial defense by dramatically improving a jet engine’s speed to market, fuel efficiency, and cost.
Founded in 2020, the company is headquartered in Englewood, Colorado, with additional facilities in Knoxville, Tennessee, Loveland Ohio, and Mount Vernon, Ohio. Beehive is committed to grow and advance the defense industrial base while manufacturing exclusively in the USA. This role will be located at our Englewood, Colorado or Loveland, Ohio facility.
Role OverviewWe are seeking a Principal Engineer, Engine Systems who will execute the design, analysis, and evaluation of turbo machinery components, assemblies, and systems integration using sound engineering principles while meeting industry standards and program requirements. This includes evaluation of the effects of the overall system (interfaces, model‑based systems engineering, system trades, etc.) on components and assemblies and driving resolution to systems level challenges.
WhatYou’ll Do
- Lead strategy on resolving complex systems level challenges and interdependencies and lead a cross‑functional team of engineers from aerodynamic, thermal, mechanical, material, and manufacturing disciplines to execute analytical, design, and programmatic milestones as required from the business.
- Create design practices and processes for the engine design, assembly, and test phases of a program. Lead technical root cause / corrective action initiatives and implement changes regarding lessons learned.
- Interface with customers to develop system level solutions throughout the development program.
- Adapt to the needs of the team and program to ensure execution of milestones and objectives.
- Lead design reviews and coordinate with other disciplines in design, performance, stress and life, additive manufacturing, materials and system analysis.
- Set test objectives and limits, instrumentation and test data requirements, and test planning to execute component validation.
- Provide timely communications on significant issues or developments.
- Lead methodologies to develop new technologies to optimize the overall aerodynamic performance of a gas turbine with additive manufacturing. Participate in the research and development of technologies and methodologies associated with additive design to drive further capability in gas turbine systems.
- Assure proper documentation of technical data generated consistent with engineering best practices.
- Work with suppliers to procure hardware and resolve producibility and quality issues.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited university or college.
- At least 11+ years of experience in gas turbine design, test, and/or development.
- At least 5 years of experience working in a systems engineering position.
- Strong understanding of design software tools as used in modeling (CAD) and analysis (CFD, FEM).
- Experience working with gas turbines for aviation product applications from a mechanical and aero design perspective.
- Familiarity with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing.
- Experience working with additive manufacturing technologies and familiarity with design for additive manufacturing principles.
- Passion for additive technology and willingness to challenge current design limitations to further exploit the benefits of additive capability.
- Strong oral and written communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
- Demonstrated problem solving ability and strong program leadership and execution skills.
- The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required. U.S. Citizenship is required, as only U.S. Citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
