POSITION SUMMARY

The Collection Development Librarian selects the physical and digital collections for all agesthat are relevant and engaging to the Englewood community with the support of library departments.

They are a team player including:supporting service points,acting as person-in-charge as scheduled,promoting materials and services, and engaging with the larger team. The ideal candidate is comfortable withparticipatingin building and refining processes and able to approach work with flexibility and curiosity.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Acquisitions 50%

  • Selects and purchaseslibrarymaterials for children, young adult, and adult collections in all formats including print, non-print, and digital based on an analysis of community andlibrarydata using a variety of resources including journals, media, publishers, and distributors.
  • Collaborates with subject matter experts across the library and city to ensure the collection meets the needs of the Englewood community.
  • Stays current on library and city programs toanticipatecollection needs.
  • Builds and analyzes reports toidentifyareas for enhancement and materials for weeding or replacement based on the Collection Development Policy and Marmot consortium guidelines.
  • Makes purchases within budget parameters andsharesrecommendations for budget allocations.
  • Monitorsthepatronpurchase requestformandbuysmaterialsthat are within scope and budget,as available from library vendors.
  • Createsandmaintainsdocumentation for processes to provide transparency across the department and library.

Collaboration and Communication

  • Collaborates with colleagues to plan training,services, programs, or events.
  • Builds andmaintainsrelationships with library vendors
  • Shares information about new formats, resources, and collection additions to empower staff in promotion.
  • Communicates purchase decisions based on requests to patrons and staff.
  • Works withstaff on merchandising and display oflibrarymaterials tofacilitatepatron access and highlight diversity in the collections.
  • Attends professional development opportunities and applies or shares pertinent information.
  • Activelyparticipatesin weeding and deaccession.

Customer Service 20%

  • Models City of Englewoodcustomer service philosophy andlibraryvalues in all interactions.
  • Provideslibraryinformation, technology assistance, referrals,and reader’s advisory guidance to patrons.
  • Serves as Person in Charge during assigned shifts,monitoring use of library spaces, de-escalating incidents, and coordinating responses with security and other managers.
  • Provides staffing support for Circulation, Reference, and Children’s desks as needed
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Skills & Competencies

  • Proficiency in technology, including library software, databases, and digital resources.
  • Knowledge of reference services, readers’ advisory, and collection development.
  • Ability to assess community needs and develop a responsive collection.
  • Understanding ofthe

    Library Bill of Rights and Freedom of Information Act.

Education

  • Master's degree inlibraryand information science from an accredited program or completion of a master’s degree inlibraryand information science within six months of hire.

Work Experience

  • 3 years of progressively responsible experience in a publiclibrarysetting preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Certifications and/or Licensures

  • None

Required Driver’s License

  • None

Preferred Qualifications

  • One year of experience working inlibrarycollection development ordoing materials selection with vendor provided interfaces
  • Experience working with Innovative Interfaces, Inc. integratedlibrarysystem.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT AND SCHEDULING
  • May require evening and weekend hours.
  • Work is performed in a public library setting, involving direct interaction with patrons, technology use, and occasional outreach activities.
  • Must be able to perform occasional lifting (up to 15lbs).
  • While this position will primarily work in person at the library, opportunities for a hybrid schedule may be available in the future.
SALARY RANGE

$59,261 - $88,892/Annual Salary

This is a full time position.
