Job Purpose
The Field Engineer Intern role provides hands‑on experience on active heavy civil construction projects. Interns gain exposure to core functions including project management, safety, estimating, quality control, and surveying. Working alongside both field and office teams, the intern will develop a practical understanding of how complex civil projects are planned, coordinated, and built.
Duties And Responsibilities- Participate in project startup meetings and assist with documentation.
- Work with key departments to assist with and gain exposure to:
- Project Management:
Assist with scheduling, coordination, quantity tracking, etc. - Safety:
Attend/Give Toolbox Talks, participate in safety inspections, and support Health and Safety personnel. - Estimating:
Assist with quantity takeoffs and bid solicitations. - Quality Control:
Support QA/QC tracking and reporting. - Surveying:
Assist with set up and layouts.
- Project Management:
- Help prepare RFIs and Submittals.
- Attend/run progress meetings and assist with documentation.
- Support coordination with subcontractors, suppliers, and inspectors.
- Perform other duties as assigned, to support the project team.
- Current student pursuing a Bachelor's Degree or technical program in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
- Strong desire to learn and grow in the construction industry.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Exposure to construction software (e.g., HCSS, Microsoft Project, Bluebeam) is a plus.
- Must have a valid driver's license.
Work will be performed in field offices and on active construction sites. Start time dependent on project hours—may require occasional nights and weekend work.
Physical Requirements- Ability to walk construction sites and navigate uneven terrain.
- Occasionally lift/move up to 25+ pounds.
- Visual acuity for reading plans and performing site inspections.
