Location: based out of our Englewood (Denver), CO headquarters. This position is expected to work onsite at a variety of locations and conditions may vary.
HPM is seeking a highly experienced Traveling Earthwork and Mining Foreman to lead daily on‑site operations for earthmoving, excavation, grading, material hauling, and related activities across diverse mining, aggregate, reclamation, heavy civil, and infrastructure projects throughout Colorado. This traveling role requires supervising crews and heavy equipment operators in challenging environments, with a primary focus on safety, productivity, quality control, schedule adherence, and budget management.
As the on‑ground leader, you will bridge project management, engineers, owners, subcontractors, and field crews to deliver safe, efficient, compliant, and profitable results. Expect extensive travel, potential extended site stays, and rotational schedules in remote or high‑altitude locations.

Key Responsibilities
- Direct daily earthwork and mining site operations, including excavation, dozing, loading, hauling, back filling, compaction, grading, and material processing in mining/quarry settings and civil projects.
- Supervise, train, motivate, and coordinate crews of operators, laborers, and support staff; assign priorities, resolve issues, and conduct performance reviews.
- Champion safety:
Enforce MSHA and OSHA protocols, lead daily Job Hazard Analyses, weekly toolbox talks, tailgate meetings, and site inspections; identify/mitigate hazards, ensure full compliance, and model safe practices (including PPE). - Drive production:
Monitor daily output, equipment efficiency, material quantities, and progress; adjust operations to meet schedules, budgets, and quality specs. - Interpret and execute plans/specifications/drawings; perform layout and set elevations using surveying tools (levels, lasers, GPS/RTS systems); ensure accurate grading, excavation, and compaction.
- Coordinate with Project Managers, Superintendents, engineers, owners, subcontractors, utility locators (e.g., Gopher One), and regulators; attend meetings, troubleshoot delays, and foster strong relationships.
- Manage heavy equipment (excavators, dozers, loaders, graders, haul trucks, etc.):
Oversee inspections, maintenance, fueling, and optimal utilization. - Handle documentation:
Daily logs, timekeeping, production reports, change orders, safety records, and inventories; use digital platforms (e.g., Autodesk/Plan Grid) for markups and reporting. - Anticipate needs:
Order materials/equipment, coordinate logistics, and support pre‑construction, punch list, and closeout phases.

QualificationsRequired Qualifications and Skills
- 7+ years of progressive experience as an Earthwork/Mining Foreman or Supervisor in heavy civil, highway, site development, mining, aggregate, or reclamation operations (Colorado experience strongly preferred).
- Proven hands‑on proficiency operating heavy equipment (dozers, excavators, loaders, graders, etc.) is required.
