Purpose of the Role
The Construction Surveyor position consists of high volume commercial/residential builder services including but not limited to multi-level building staking, foundation staking, civil staking, as-built collecting and form checks as directed by the Manager of the Self Perform Survey department.
Functions / Duties
- Utilize robotic total stations.
- Utilize GPS with local VRS system as well as local base set ups.
- Using an auto level to set and define elevations.
- Perform daily downloads of data collector files with a daily report to the Survey Manager.
- Collect and code data for topographic, utility, structural monitoring, boundary, other types of surveys.
- Setting high accuracy control through resection or multi turned angles.
- Prepare field notes, sketches, and photos.
- Adhere to company protocols for maintenance and upkeep of survey equipment and vehicles.
- Assist self-perform department in developing and maintaining survey department. Assist self-perform division.
- Work closely with Saunders BIM department to utilize concrete lift drawings and models for self-perform concrete layout
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities / Qualifications / Experience
- An equivalent combination of 5 years+ education and experience as a party chief preferred.
- Wide range of experience in topographic/boundary survey and construction layout.
- Must be knowledgeable with the operation of survey instruments including electronic robotic total station, digital level, GPS equipment, GPR, 3D laser scanner, and data collectors.
- Knowledge of civil and structural layout.
- Large project survey including commercial high rise, campus style apartments, senior living, retail and infrastructure projects a plus.
- Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D, and Trimble Business Center a plus.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and have a clean driving record.
Physical Demands
The following are some of the physical demands commonly associated with this position:
- Spends approximately 70% of the time sitting, and 30% of the time either standing or walking while on the job.
- Occasionally
* lifts up to 50 lbs, when moving project binders, office supplies or files, and may stoop, kneel, crouch, and balance while performing these same functions. - Occasionally required to climb, crawl, stoop and negotiate ladders, stairs or other routes at and within project sites in order to fulfill duties.
- Constantly uses verbal and auditory capacity enabling interpersonal communication as well as communication through automated devices such as E-Mail, telephone and text.
- Constantly employs eye, hand and finger coordination enabling the use of office machinery such as computer keyboard.
- Constantly utilizes full scope of visual capacity to travel to project sites and observe/verify project progress in addition to operating automated office equipment.

Frequently - Activity exists from 1/3 to 2/3 of the time.
Occasionally - Activity exists less the 1/3 of the time.
