Tax Preparer

Description

Key Responsibilities

+ Prepare, review, and verify federal and state tax returns, including individual, S corporation, partnership, and trust returns

+ Create invoices and request payment for services rendered based on time spent and complexity of work performed

+ Review tax forms and documentation completed by clients to ensure accuracy and proper submission

+ Research complex tax issues and consult with senior preparers when necessary

+ Gather and utilize current tax tables, instructions, and forms to accurately calculate tax liabilities

+ Inform clients of required documentation and missing information needed to complete returns

+ Work closely with clients to identify potential deductions, credits, educational grants, and allowances

+ Meet with clients to answer questions and address concerns related to tax filings and documentation

+ Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive financial and personal information with discretion

+ Ensure timely completion of returns while managing multiple client deadlines

Qualifications

+ Certification from the National Association of Tax Professionals (NATP) strongly preferred

+ High school diploma or GED required; college-level coursework in accounting preferred

+ Proven experience preparing S corporation, partnership, individual, state, and trust tax returns

+ Recent, hands-on experience using CCH Pro System fx (required)

+ Strong knowledge of federal and state tax regulations and filing processes

+ Experience working with confidential and sensitive client information

+ Familiarity with ordering and referencing tax forms and instruction booklets

+ Ability to prioritize tasks and manage a high volume of client work efficiently

+ Solid understanding of accounting principles and strong mathematical skills

+ Proficiency with tax preparation software and ability to troubleshoot common software issues

+ Comfortable researching tax handbooks and reference materials for complex return scenarios
