Selected candidates will be employed at Robinson Correctional Institution in Enfield, CT and Osborn Correctional Institution in Somers, CT. This recruitment may be used to fill vacancies throughout State correctional facilities as openings occur within the next year.

• Repair of critical systems such as potable piping distribution/pumping, hot water heating, steam distribution piping, drain (sanitary) piping, macerator (grinding and pumping), cross connection (back flow prevention), and cell fixtures (toilets, sinks, and showers).
• Supervising assigned inmates at a Correctional Institution.
• Keeping records of tool/inventory control.
• Maintaining health and safety of the public, staff and inmates; snow and ice removal to maintain safe access for police, medical staff and the public.
• Maintaining mandated compliances with Federal & State statutes and agency directives and policies to assure humane conditions of confinement through repair and maintenance.
• This position is full time on first shift, Monday through Friday, from 7:45 am until 3:00 pm.

Selected candidates will be required to attend a 14-week paid hazardous duty training at the Maloney Center for Training & Staff Development in Cheshire, CT.

• MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE
  Three (3) years of experience as a plumber and/or steamfitter.
• NOTE:
  
  Based on an individual’s technical experience, the length of credited service will be determined at the discretion of facility management.
• MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SPECIAL EXPERIENCE
  One (1) year of the General Experience must have been at a highly skilled level.
• MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED
  Graduation from a vocational or technical school in the trade may be substituted for one (1) year of the General Experience. Experience performing technical duties within the maintenance trade area on a military base, aircraft carrier or large compound may be substituted for the General and Special Experience on a year-for-year basis.
