Introduction
Are you a manufacturing professional in Connecticut who is passionate about educating the future of the field and looking to transform the lives of our incarcerated population? The State of Connecticut, Department of Correction Unified School District #1 seeks an enthusiastic and experienced Advanced Manufacturing Instructor (Vocational Instructor) to teach advanced manufacturing skills through applied learning methodology and work‑based learning experiences that prepare students for high‑wage careers.
Students also learn personal development, leadership, and employability skills as an integral part of the curriculum.
- Schedule:
First‑shift, full time (35 hours per week), Monday through Friday - Academic Calendar: 12‑month school calendar with 222 school days per year
- Location:
Robinson Correctional Institution (Enfield, CT) - Training: 14‑week hazardous duty training at the Maloney Center for Training & Staff Development; 14‑week training at the CT DOC Training Academy; candidates may be required to present a lesson plan in front of students during the interview process.
- Salary:
Step 1 (minimum) $68,792;
Step 11‑14 (maximum) $104,174 (pay plan details per CT DOC P‑3B T1‑T4 35‑hour Pay Plan)

- Prioritize safety and security for staff, victims, citizens, and offenders.
- Teach early intervention, elementary, secondary, special subject, and/or special education curricula.
- Develop educational plans for individuals and groups; set short‑ and long‑term goals and evaluate student progress.
- Participate in planning team meetings and case review conferences to assess student behavior.
- Hold conferences with parents or officials concerned with student performance.
- Relate to professionals in ancillary educational roles; maintain student records and write reports.
- Model positive teaching practices.
- High School diploma or equivalency and eight (8) years of employment and/or teaching experience in advanced manufacturing practices.
- A degree in Machine Tool Technology, Manufacturing Technology, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
- Industry experience:
Manual Machining, CNC Machining, or Blueprint Reading. - Working knowledge of CNC controls; ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to students with varying skill levels.
- Understanding of different learning styles and ability to teach to varied ability levels.
- Working knowledge of classroom routines and disciplines; outstanding personal and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to follow the class schedule as provided by the school administration, even if it changes unexpectedly.
- Experience teaching a diverse group of people; experience working in a correctional institution setting; experience teaching groups with differing education levels.
- Knowledge and experience with workplace safety, manufacturing math, blueprint reading, metal lathe operation, vertical milling machines, band saw operation, grinding, metrology, layout work, hand tools, CNC, Bob CAD, Solid Works, and soft skills for industry success.
