Overview
Introduction:
The Connecticut Department of Correction Unified School District #1 is seeking an Advanced Manufacturing Instructor (Vocational Instructor) to teach knowledge and skills required by industry through applied learning and work-based experiences. The program includes personal development, leadership and employability skills as part of the curriculum. The position is located at Robinson Correctional Institution in Enfield, CT. Candidates should have a high school diploma (or equivalency) and eight years of employment and/or teaching experience in advanced manufacturing practices.
The role involves teaching in a correctional education setting and supporting students toward high-wage, high-skill career paths in manufacturing.
Position highlights include: first-shift, full time (35 hours/week), Monday through Friday; a 12-month academic calendar with 222 school days; and required training and onboarding as part of the interview process and employment. Responsibilities- Prioritize safety and security for staff, victims, citizens, and offenders.
- Teach early intervention, elementary, secondary, special subject, and/or special education curricula as appropriate.
- Develop educational plans for individuals and groups; set short- and long-term goals and evaluate student progress.
- Participate in planning team meetings and case review conferences; hold conferences with parents or officials concerned with student performance.
- Coordinate with ancillary educational roles; maintain student records and write reports; model positive teaching practices.
- Plan and conduct vocational education classes and shop sessions in accordance with established curriculum; correct papers and tests; provide individual instruction and counseling as needed.
- Attend staff and professional meetings; perform required security duties to maintain safety within the facility; prepare required reports.
- General:
High school graduation or equivalent and eight (8) years of employment and/or teaching experience in the subject field. - Special:
Incumbents must meet State Board of Education requirements to receive an initial educator certificate to teach Vocational Education.
Note:
compensation for extended schedules will follow the applicable contract.
- Experience teaching a diverse group of people; experience in a correctional institution setting; experience teaching groups with differing education levels.
- Knowledge and experience with training in:
Workplace Safety, Manufacturing Math, Blueprint Reading, Metal Lathe Operation, Vertical Milling Machines, Band Saw Operation, Grinding, Metrology, Layout Work, Hand Tools, Computer Numerical Control, BobCAD, Solid Works; and Soft Skills for Industry Success.
