Senior Software Engineer – Systems Improvement & Scale

Car Planet is a fast-growing car supermarket and automotive retail business building and running our own in-house platforms — including Autogrid (our core Dealer Management System), plus supporting systems like Audiofy (call intelligence) and Route Portal (logistics & routing).

We’re looking for a senior, pragmatic software engineer to inspect, stabilise, and improve live, revenue‑critical systems as the business scales. You’ll work hands‑on with existing production systems to improve performance, reliability, and maintainability — without disrupting day‑to‑day operations.

• Take ownership of an existing production codebase
• Identify technical debt, performance bottlenecks, and architectural risks
• Improve system stability, scalability, and maintainability incrementally
• Safely refactor critical areas without disrupting live operations
• Primary ownership:
  Autogrid
• Secondary oversight:
  Audiofy &
  Route Portal
• Review code and raise engineering standards
• Partner closely with the CEO, product, and operations teams
• Turn business problems into practical technical solutions

• ✔️ 5+ years professional software development experience
• ✔️ Proven experience working on live production systems
• ✔️ Strong refactoring and system‑improvement skills
• ✔️ Comfortable in fast‑moving, imperfect environments
• ✔️ Able to work autonomously with strong judgement on priorities & risk>
• Highly Desirable
• ⭐ Startup or scale‑up background
• ⭐ Experience across multiple internal products

📝 Open to initial contract engagement before permanent hire

• 28 days annual leave (incl. Bank Holidays)
