Job Summary

North London Foundation NHS Trust seeks to appoint an enthusiastic full-time consultant psychiatrist to the Enfield North CORE Team based in Silver Street, Enfield. The North Locality Team is one of two Core Community Mental Health Teams (North and South) covering the borough of Enfield. The post is available as the current substantive consultant has relocated. This post offers 10 Programmed Activities per week – 7.5 PAs for direct clinical care (DCC) and up to 2.5 PAs for supporting professional activity (SPA).

The post holder will provide clinical and professional leadership and take part in related management activities. As a senior clinician, the post holder will have an integral role in team performance, further development of the service, and the development of clinical pathways and priorities.

Main duties of the job

General Expectations of a Consultant Psychiatrist employed with North London NHS Foundation Trust include:

  • To work within the MDT promoting respect for all professional groups and focused on coherent and integrated teamwork.
  • To be Section 12(2) approved and have approved clinician status and participate in the Trust-wide Section 12 daytime rota.
  • To provide second opinions for consultant colleagues if requested.
  • To keep up administration and note-keeping on the electronic patient record system in a timely manner, including letters to GPs, Dialog+ and risk assessments.
  • To assist with Serious Incident investigations and complaints if requested.
  • To keep up to date with mandatory training.
  • To attend and participate in Consultants' and Management meetings to stay informed of service issues and developments.
  • Other management/clinical supporting activity (to be negotiated as required by the Trust).

Job Description

Job responsibilities

The post holder will provide clinical leadership for the Enfield North Locality Team and will:

  • Manage an established caseload of patients with severe mental illness (SMI), many of whom use medication.
  • Contribute to the management of non-SMI clients in collaboration with colleagues from psychological therapies service streams and other staff groups.
  • Act as Responsible Clinician (RC) for Locality Team clients treated on a Community Treatment Order (CTO, S17A MHA) under your PCN.
  • Contribute to the assessment of newly referred cases and formulate appropriate treatment plans with colleagues from other disciplines.
  • Comply with all legal obligations covering clinical practice (e.g., Mental Health Act and Code of Practice) and safeguarding procedures.
  • Complete relevant paperwork, maintain the electronic record, and participate in routine outcome monitoring of clinical work.
  • Supervise and facilitate learning for medical staff and other professionals in all aspects of psychiatric care.
  • Participate in Enfield consultant psychiatrist on-call rota (1:32).
  • Participate in the weekly team meeting and undertake other duties, as negotiated, that contribute to the good functioning of the clinical team.
  • Provide clinical and professional leadership within the post and engage in management activities and governance processes related to the post or wider service.
  • As a senior clinician, play an integral role in team performance, service development, and the development of clinical pathways and priorities.
