Position: Teaching Assistant
Location: East London
Salary: £90–£100 per day (depending on experience and qualifications)
Contract Type: Full-Time, Term-Time Only
Start Date: ASAP.

The Role:

As a Teaching Assistant at an East London PMLD school, you’ll play a vital role in supporting students throughout their day – from engaging in classroom activities to providing personal care. This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who is patient, caring, and keen to develop their skills in SEN education.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support students 1:1 or in small groups with a focus on sensory learning and communication.
  • Assist with personal care (toileting, feeding, mobility) in a respectful and compassionate manner.
  • Help implement personalised learning plans under the guidance of class teachers and therapists.
  • Use specialist resources such as PECS, Makaton, switches, and sensory equipment.
  • Create a calm, safe, and stimulating environment for learning.
  • Work collaboratively with staff, therapists, and families to ensure holistic support for each student.

Ideal Candidate:

  • Experience working with children or young people with PMLD, SLD, or complex needs.
  • Comfortable with providing personal care and supporting physical needs.
  • A positive, resilient, and empathetic nature.
  • Understanding of or willingness to learn alternative communication methods (e.g., Makaton, AAC).
  • Team player who’s committed to creating inclusive learning opportunities.
  • Relevant qualifications (e.g., CACHE/NVQ Level 2 or
    3) are beneficial but not essential.
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to apply.

What We Offer:

  • A supportive, experienced, and friendly staff team.
  • Ongoing CPD and training opportunities in SEND, communication, and care.
  • A well-resourced school with a focus on wellbeing—for both staff and students.
  • The chance to be part of a rewarding journey with some truly inspiring young people.

All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. Please see the FAQs on the Protocol Education website for further details.
