Job Description The Competitive Gymnastics Head Coach is an elite-level professional coach who is solely responsible for overseeing the Branch's overall competitive team gymnastics program, ensuring focus on competitive excellence, athlete development, long-term commitment, and team culture. Its primary duties include leading, developing, implementing, and evaluating the effectiveness of competitive gymnastics training plans, fostering long-term athlete and team commitment, supervising and mentoring head and team coaches, and managing the safety and administrative aspects of the program.

Magdalena Ecke Family YMCA Gymnastics Center in Carlsbad - Schedule:
Monday – Friday 1:00pm–8:30pm;
Sunday 9:00am–2:00pm - Travel with the team is required; season is typically December–May each year
- Will do admin work in an office and coach multiple ages and levels on the floor, 4–5 hours/day
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience
- 10+ years' gymnastics experience, 5+ years' of which as professional level competitive team coach (all USAG levels)
- 2+ years' in a leadership or head coach position in gymnastics upper-level competitive setting
- 18 years of age or older; fingerprinting required by state law and YMCA funders
- CPR/AED and First Aid Certification (Adult and Child/Infant), obtained within 30 days of hire, from one of:
- American Red Cross
- American Heart Association
- American Safety & Health Institute
- Lead all aspects of competitive team gymnastics strategy for the assigned branch, including organization, preparation and implementation of progressive team lesson plans focusing on skills advancement, mastery, choreography, team dynamics, competition readiness, commitment, and safety at trainings and competitions
- Develop and implement a comprehensive guideline on the competitive team gymnastics program to assist gymnasts, teams, and their families navigate and understand levels, progression, and requirements
- Build a supportive and engaged team culture, foster long-term training commitment, prevent and resolve team conflicts, ensure a strong foundation as the team progresses through levels, and align training schedules with team members’ life commitments and aspirations
- Oversee daily training sessions, provide feedback and guidance to coaches and teams; review and evaluate coaches' performance; develop coaching mentorship and action plans
- Develop preparation plans for upcoming competitions (local meets, state, regional, national); ensure physical and mental readiness, routines meeting competition requirements, conditioning and injury prevention, mock competitions, logistics, travel plans, accommodations, uniforms and equipment, parent communication, emergency planning, and team coordination
- Lead head and team coaches in creating effective daily training routines, leveraging gymnasts' strengths, managing pressures of competition, and promoting positive training and competition experiences
- Assess individual gymnasts and teams for appropriate training level based on skill, readiness, time commitment, and long-term goals
- Communicate with parents about program expectations, responsibilities, and progress
- Develop safety and maintenance protocols; ensure adherence and take immediate action during incidents in trainings or competitions
- Maintain correspondence with USAG regarding memberships and registrations; organize and host USAG meets; act as meet director for USAG meets and events
- Full staff supervisory responsibility including hiring, training, performance evaluation, and discipline of direct reports; supervise Head Gymnastics Coach and Team Gymnastics Coach
