Utility , II, or III; Construction Olivenhain Municipal Water District

Olivenhain Municipal Water District is seeking candidates for the positions of Utility I, Utility II, or Utility III. Vacancies will be filled at the I, II, or III level based on candidate experience and certifications. These at‑will positions report to the Construction Operations Supervisor.

• Utility I: $26.87 – $37.56 per hour
• Utility II: $30.36 – $42.48 per hour
• Utility III: $34.58 – $48.38 per hour

These at‑will positions perform construction, installation, and maintenance work on water pipelines and rights of way, buildings and grounds, valves, pumps, meters, tanks, hydrants, telemetry, cathodic protection and related equipment. They lay and join pipe; break out pavement for installations; repair mains and services; install and maintain customer meters; perform routine maintenance on equipment and facilities; operate a variety of equipment including backhoe, earthmover, trucks, compressors, pneumatic hammers, drills, welders and hand tools.

They participate in training on all procedures and operation of machinery, vehicles, and equipment. They perform administrative work as required. Utility III serves as crew leader at the site, providing work direction and technical instruction to other Utility personnel; acts independently using sound judgment; inspects work results; and prepares equipment. These positions require the ability to be “on‑call”, working evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Education:

High School diploma or equivalent; valid California driver’s license and proof of insurability;
Standard First Aid and CPR certifications are required.

• Level I: Minimum of one year of experience laying pipe and related materials. Basic familiarity with electrical, plumbing, welding, heavy equipment operation, landscaping, and hand tools. State of California Water Distribution Operator D1 certification is required.
• Level II: In addition to Level I requirements, a Water Technology Certification is desirable. Minimum three years of experience working in water operations and maintenance; comprehension of District rules and regulations and OSHA requirements; ability to safely operate construction vehicles and equipment; computer proficiency. State of California Water Distribution Operator D2 certification is required. Must meet qualifications for Primary Duty within six (6) months of appointment.
• Level III: In addition to Level II requirements, thorough knowledge of departmental procedures; completion of a supervisory course; ability to manage competing priorities; computer proficiency. State of California Water Distribution Operator D3 certification is required. Valid California Class “B” or higher driver’s license is required. Must meet qualifications for Secondary Duty within six (6) months of appointment.
