Position

Summary

The Outreach Coordinator supports San Diego Rescue Mission’s efforts to connect with the community, build strategic partnerships, and engage individuals experiencing homelessness with essential services. This position is responsible for implementing outreach initiatives, coordinating street and community engagement activities, and strengthening relationships with churches, nonprofits, and civic partners. The role requires a compassionate, Christ-centered approach that reflects SDRM’s mission and values in every interaction with clients, staff, and the public.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and conduct outreach activities in collaboration with community partners, city agencies, and faith-based organizations.
  • Engage with individuals experiencing homelessness to assess needs and connect them to appropriate resources and programs.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with community partners, local businesses, and service providers.
  • Coordinate and track outreach events, community fairs, and engagement opportunities throughout San Diego County.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of outreach contacts, service referrals, and outcomes in the program database.
  • Collaborate with case managers and other SDRM staff to ensure seamless referrals and client follow-up.
  • Support data collection and reporting requirements to meet grant and program goals.
  • Participate in coordinated outreach meetings, case conferencing, and community coalition gatherings.
  • Promote trauma-informed and client-centered practices that uphold dignity and respect.
  • Support and participate in ministry-wide activities, chapel services, and special events as applicable.

Qualifications Education
  • Minimum:
    Associate’s Degree or equivalent experience. Must have active AODS License
  • Preferred:
    Bachelor’s in Social Work, Communications, Theology, or related field
  • Lived experience of homelessness counts toward education and experience.
Experience
  • Minimum of 2 years working in outreach, social services, ministry, or nonprofit environments.
  • Experience engaging with individuals facing homelessness, trauma, or addiction preferred.
Skills & Abilities
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to maintain emotional resilience and composure in challenging field situations.
  • Knowledge of local homeless response systems, community resources, and crisis intervention techniques.
  • Proficiency with data entry, case management systems, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and collaborate within a team environment.
Work Environment and Physical Demands

This position involves frequent field work in outdoor environments and client engagement in community settings. The role may require walking, standing, and lifting up to 25 lbs, as well as occasional evening or weekend work.
