We are seeking a Facilities Maintenance Specialist (I&E) to join our team in Emeryville, CA. The role is responsible for safely performing advanced preventive maintenance activities, including calibrations, troubleshooting, and repair work for equipment and systems related to Utilities, Process, and Laboratory. The position works closely with the Facilities team and equipment owners to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
Responsibilities- Perform hands‑on preventative maintenance, calibrations, fault diagnosis and troubleshooting, and repair work of Facilities' process, mechanical, electrical, and other installed systems independently or with a team, with minimum supervision.
- Utilities:
Operate, maintain, calibrate and repair equipment and systems, to the instrument/component level, which include HVAC&R, Boilers, Air Compressors, Reverse Osmosis and De‑ionized water, Clean Steam, Chilled Water Systems, Agitators and Pumps with standard or mechanical seals, valves, diaphragms, associated piping, drainage, and waste equipment. - Process:
Maintain, calibrate, troubleshoot and repair equipment which includes 1000 L, 300 L and 20 L reactors and associated piping and instrumentation, Centrifuges, TFF skids, Autoclaves, Washers, and CIP skids. - Laboratory:
Maintain, calibrate, troubleshoot and repair equipment in collaboration with equipment owners and users to determine best approach to troubleshoot, procure repair parts, work with vendors, or replace equipment including:
Vacuum pumps, ATR shakers, Centrifuges, High‑pressure cylinders, –20 and –80 Freezers, etc. - Closely collaborate with Facilities Team to complete daily planned and unplanned work.
- Timely completion of tasks and work orders with appropriate documentation according to applicable standards.
- Assist the Facilities Team with project development and management as needed.
- Identify, anticipate, organize, and initiate acquisition of spare parts, safety equipment, engineering documents, service manuals, and test equipment.
- Prepare and organize technical documentation including operational, preventive maintenance procedures, SOP, and equipment failure reports and corrective actions.
- Collect and organize technical data from equipment manufacturers, equipment users, and engineering personnel.
- Communicate appropriately, verbally and in writing, with Facilities and other departments' personnel to ensure appropriate performance of the Site's equipment and systems at optimized costs.
- Vendor and Contractor management: schedule and coordinate with contractors and act as the main point of contact.
- Understand hazards associated with electrical and stored energy; secure and perform lock‑out/tag‑out (LOTO) and safe work permits.
- Able to take initiative and complete objectives with minimal supervision.
- Respond to facility emergencies or call‑ins after hours on an as‑needed basis.
- At a minimum, successful completion of a technical school or relevant on‑the‑job training; must be proficient in standards and practices for industrial mechanical and instrumentation systems.
- Minimum six years of experience in Facilities operations and maintenance for Biotech/Laboratory Industry or similar experience.
- Knowledgeable in standards and practices for industrial instrumentation and mechanical systems.
- Extensive experience in safe operation of tools and testing equipment and execution of work in the field in compliance with applicable safety procedures and requirements.
- Knowledgeable in troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of instrumentation equipment.
- Proficient in reading and understanding electrical and mechanical drawings, sketches, OEM instructions and specifications in troubleshooting and repair activities.
- Strong team player with the ability to change direction quickly in a fast‑paced environment.

- Excellent written and verbal skills, and proficiency with Word and Excel.
