Classification: Non‑Exempt, Full Time – 40 hours per week
Job Summary:
This is an exciting opportunity to join a team dedicated to supporting the mission and vision of Elyria Catholic High School. Under the supervision of the Director of Facilities, the Facilities Technician will take a lead role in maintaining and enhancing the school’s outdoor spaces. The position centers on hands‑on, outdoor work that keeps the campus grounds safe, attractive, and fully functional for students, staff, and visitors.
While some indoor maintenance is required, the majority of responsibilities involve grounds care, field preparation, and seasonal outdoor operations.
- Perform daily grounds‑keeping tasks including planting, watering, trimming, mulching, weeding, and general landscaping to maintain healthy and attractive campus grounds.
- Mow and maintain all lawns, athletic fields, and outdoor courts; operate outdoor power equipment safely and effectively.
- Prepare athletic fields for practices and events, including mowing, grooming, painting lines, and ensuring surfaces are safe and event‑ready.
- Remove trash, debris, and natural waste from outdoor areas to maintain a clean and welcoming campus environment.
- Conduct snow removal and ice treatment on sidewalks, walkways, and outdoor steps to ensure safe passage during winter months.
- Assist with seasonal tasks such as leaf removal, storm cleanup, and winterizing outdoor facilities and equipment.
- Perform routine inspections of outdoor areas, equipment, and structures; identify and report maintenance needs proactively.
- Complete basic building repairs such as light bulb replacement, minor plumbing fixes, and door hardware adjustments.
- Support event setup and breakdown, including moving furniture, arranging equipment, and preparing indoor and outdoor spaces for school activities.
- Perform occasional janitorial tasks as needed, including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and trash disposal.
- Assist with monitoring and maintaining HVAC and boiler systems (where applicable).
- Perform minor painting, patching, and drywall repair.
- Carry out additional duties as assigned by the Director of Facilities or designated staff member.
- Work collaboratively with teammates to ensure the school’s facilities remain clean, safe, and well‑maintained.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum 3 years of facilities, grounds, or maintenance experience; school environment experience a plus.
- Ability to pass Ohio BCI and FBI background checks required for school employment.
- VIRTUS certified or willing to be certified.
- General knowledge of grounds‑keeping, landscaping equipment, carpentry, plumbing, electrical systems, and HVAC basics.
- Physical ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 75 lbs.; frequent climbing, bending, kneeling, and outdoor physical labor required.
- Experience operating power equipment and hand tools safely and effectively.
- Ability to read and understand manuals, instructions, and basic blueprints.
- Strong teamwork, communication, and customer‑service mindset.
- Ability to prioritize tasks, work independently, and adapt to changing needs.
- Understanding of school safety practices and commitment to maintaining a safe environment.
- Valid State of Ohio driver’s license required.
- Snow‑plow experience a plus.
- Understanding of the school’s Catholic identity and values.
- Reliable attendance and willingness to work extended hours, evenings, or weekends as needed.
- Comfortable working outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
- Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. (start/end times may vary)
- Some weekends may be required due to sporting or weather events
