Regulated Industry Officer

Overview

We are looking for environmental professionals to join our teams that regulate industrial and waste installations across the East Anglian Region. As a regulatory officer you will be at the forefront of protecting people and the environment from harm and securing environmental improvements. This role supports our climate ambitions and green growth.

• Undertake compliance assessment activities at a range of industrial sites.
• Ensure permit compliance and make complex assessments of an operator's ability to protect the environment, prevent pollution and optimise use of resources; set conditions under which a site may continue to operate and enforce these.
• Use influencing and negotiating skills to secure best practice, often dealing with people at senior levels within industry and local communities.
• Respond to and investigate incidents across the portfolio of sites, ensuring preventive and protective action is implemented.
• You may take up an incident management role in the wider business which may include out of hours standby duties.

The posts will be in one of our Installations Teams, within Local Operations, based in Colchester, Ipswich, Ely or Norwich. The team works flexibly, delivering regulation at industrial processes including the food and drink, chemical, landfill, and energy from waste sectors located in the rural and urban areas of East Anglia. To achieve our aims, it’s important that we work closely with other local and national teams, companies, communities, and partner organisations.

• You’ll be a proactive, self-motivated and confident communicator, used to influencing and negotiating to deliver outcomes, with strong interpersonal skills; together with well-developed technical expertise and regulatory experience within an industrial environment.
• A full UK driving licence will be required; flexibility to travel for operational site visits and incident response. A vehicle will be made available for business travel in line with our travel policy.
• Preferably: regulatory and/or industrial experience; familiarity with environmental management systems, auditing, and root cause analysis; ability to interpret environmental monitoring and performance data; experience in managing multiple demands and delivering outcomes independently; initiative and a continuous improvement mindset; degree/equivalent in a scientific, environmental, or engineering discipline.

• Membership of a relevant professional organisation such as IEMA, CIWM.
