Position Summary:
Hinds Career Center is seeking a dedicated, passionate and knowledgeable Career and Technical Education (CTE) Welding Instructor to join our dynamic team in the Advanced Manufacturing Pathway. This instructor will engage students in hands-on, project-based learning experiences that develop foundational and advanced welding skills across multiple processes and materials. The ideal candidate will bring strong industry experience in welding, fabrication, and metalworking, along with a commitment to safety, precision, and craftsmanship.
The instructor will prepare students for industry-recognized certifications such as AWS (American Welding Society) credentials and equip them with the technical and employability skills necessary to succeed in postsecondary programs or enter the skilled trades workforce directly after graduation.
Key Responsibilities:
* Deliver engaging, standards-based instruction aligned to the Indiana CTE Welding Technology Standards.
* Design and implement lessons and lab projects in SMAW, GMAW, FCAW, GTAW, OAW, and plasma cutting processes. Integrate instruction in blueprint reading, welding symbols, layout, fabrication, and metal finishing techniques.
* Emphasize and model proper safety procedures, including compliance with OSHA, AWS, and school safety standards for materials handling, personal protective equipment (PPE), and equipment operation.
* Guide students in preparing for and earning industry-recognized credentials, including AWS certifications and dual-credit opportunities.
* Supervise students in classroom, lab, and work-based learning settings, providing individualized instruction, coaching, and feedback to promote technical mastery and professional growth.
* Collaborate with local employers, industry partners, and postsecondary institutions to create work-based learning experiences and strengthen employment pipelines.
* Align curriculum, assessments, and program outcomes with state and industry standards to ensure students are prepared for certifications and postsecondary pathways. for program standards.
* Establish partnerships with local schools and postsecondary institutions for dual credit and work-based learning opportunities.
* Maintain accurate student records for attendance, credential attainment, and skill progression.
* Oversee lab organization, inventory, and maintenance of tools, welding machines, and safety equipment to ensure a clean and efficient learning environment.
* Promote participation of non-traditional and underrepresented students while fostering an inclusive, supportive classroom culture.
* Participate in professional development and maintain industry credentials to remain current with advancements in welding technology and instructional best practices.
* Collaborate with other instructors and staff to align curriculum with broader CTE and school-wide goals.
Qualifications:
* Industry-recognized certifications and/or experience in welding, fabrication, or related manufacturing fields.
* Licensing options:
* Workplace Specialist:
Welding Technology or related course approved for a CTE pathway - - or candidate will obtain Workplace Specialist License during first year of teaching Workplace Specialist eligibility requirements include 5000 hours (about 2.5 years) of verified occupational experience in the past five (5) years
* Demonstrated expertise in welding processes (SMAW, GMAW, FCAW, GTAW), blueprint reading, metallurgy, and fabrication techniques.
* Proficiency with shop tools, materials, and welding equipment, including the ability to maintain a safe and efficient lab environment.
* Strong instructional, organizational, and classroom management skills.
* Excellent communication and collaboration skills with students, staff, and industry partners.
