Position Summary

The Center for Race, Ethnicity, and Diversity Education (CREDE) at Elon University is a space for all students, dedicated to fostering empowerment, well‑being, and holistic growth. While we welcome and support the entire campus community, we place particular emphasis on elevating the experiences of ALANAM (African American/Black, Latinx/Hispanic, Asian, Pacific Islander, Native American, Alaskan Native, and Multiracial) students. Through inclusive resources, educational programs, and community‑driven initiatives, the CREDE promotes cultural awareness, intercultural competence, and a deep sense of belonging for everyone.

Our work centers self‑exploration and cultivates understanding across the diverse identities that enrich our university. As a vital part of the CREDE, El Centro serves as a vibrant hub for engagement, celebration, dialogue, and learning focused on Latinx/Hispanic cultures, languages, and experiences. It fosters a welcoming environment that affirms identity and encourages meaningful connection and collaboration. El Centro also functions as an educational and cultural resource for all members of the Elon community, offering opportunities to build cultural awareness and contribute through service and engagement.

The Assistant Director of the Center for Race, Ethnicity, and Diversity Education is part of a seven‑person team committed to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion through education, advocacy, and community building. This full‑time, 12‑month position shares responsibility for the daily operations of El Centro, including supervising, mentoring, and advising students and student leaders. With expertise in supporting Latinx/Hispanic students, the Assistant Director plays a key role in meeting the evolving needs of Elon’s diverse student populations.

The position is responsible for designing and implementing culturally relevant programming, supporting student well‑being and academic success, and cultivating an affirming space that reflects the values of inclusion and excellence. In collaboration with faculty, staff, alumni, and community partners, the Assistant Director works to create a campus culture where all students feel seen, valued, and supported.
