Cleaning Services, Janitor
Under direct supervision, perform custodial work required for the cleaning and upkeep of buildings in accordance with the standards of the Residence Hall Custodial department.
Position Status:
Non-Exempt
Salary Range: $19.00 - $20.00. This is the expected hourly rate for this position.
Responsibilities- Performs daily custodial duties and work orders as assigned, including but not limited to cleaning and maintaining washrooms, collecting and removing trash, sweeping, mopping floors and stairs, and vacuuming carpets
- Ability to learn to use janitorial equipment, including automatic scrubber, high-speed buffer, carpet extractor, upright vacuum, and low-speed floor scrubber
- Ability to move large and heavy objects either alone or with a coworker
- Maintains adequate stock of custodial supplies in assigned custodial closets
- Inspects equipment and informs supervisor if there is any issue with janitorial equipment in assigned area
- Shovels and de-ices sidewalks and stairs on campus
- Assists in setting up or taking down the set-up for special events as directed. This may include moving and removing large and heavy objects, such as chairs, tables, and stages, either alone or with a coworker
- Replaces light bulbs as needed. Demonstrates proper ladder safety
- Demonstrates a strong commitment to continuous improvement

- Performs other duties as assigned
- Basic knowledge of custodial equipment and supplies including their proper usage
- Ability to work well independently and in a team
- Willingness to work overtime as needed
The essential functions of this position require regular movement between
VAT indoor and outdoor campus locations. Exposure to varying weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold. Work is often physically demanding, requiring walking, navigating uneven or slippery surfaces, climbing stairs and ladders, bending, kneeling, and standing for extended periods. Required abilities include frequent use of fine motor skills to push, pull, or maneuver a range of equipment. Work requires regular lifting of objects up to 50 pounds, and occasional lifting of up to 100 pounds.
