Under the direction of the Swim Director, the Pre‑Lifeguard associate is responsible for completing all required training and certifications to become a certified lifeguard. This position also assists with safety, cleanliness, and operation of the swimming pool during operating hours. The primary function is general support to maintain safety for our members on the pool deck.

• Focus on quality experiences and engagement within programs, services, and activities
• Understand age and stages of youth development, working with children
• Support communication between associates and members/parents
• Informing appropriate leaders of operating challenges, equipment/supply needs, and/or conflicts during operating hours
• Enforce Y in Central Maryland policies, guidelines, and best practices
• Encourage member engagement and outstanding member experience
• Foster a positive, motivating environment for families, children, and peers
• Effectively coordinate facility usage for assigned programs and activities
• Support the center’s annual support campaign and provide leadership support to associate giving and engagement
• Work with a diverse population of all ages, genders, and sexual orientations
• Attend and actively participate in all meetings as assigned
• Incorporate the four character values of the YMCA:
  Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility, and adhere to the YCM Code of Conduct
• Communicate the Y mission and objectives to the community
• Assist in all other areas as assigned
