Outdoor Canoe​/Kayak Instructor; Part-Time - Recreation & Parks

Want to share your love of paddling and inspire others? Get paid to lead children and adults to adventure in a flexible position that can be scheduled around you. Howard County Recreation and Parks is seeking part-time canoe/kayak instructors to lead paddling classes and trips with seasonal programs and summer camps. Preferred applicants have experience leading flatwater and river paddling activities in work or volunteer settings, teaching technique, flexibility, patience and a positive attitude.

The instructor will perform instruction, coordination and supervision during canoe/kayak classes and river trips for the Adventure, Nature and Outdoor unit, including driving a County vehicle with trailer to river locations around Maryland.

This is the perfect part time job for someone who has a flexible schedule and is looking for some extra income. Applicants must be at least 21 years old and possess a clean driving record. CPR/First Aid certification and prior trailer driving experience are preferred. This is a part-time position with evening and weekend hours (time varies) with a very flexible schedule.

Classes and programs are held at Howard County Recreation and Park facilities and parks and various regional paddling locations. Reliable transportation is important.

Rate of Pay: Salary commensurate with experience and certification(s).

Level I - Includes experience and specialized education and training or certification in skill area.

Level II - Includes two (2) years of professional experience and specialized education and training in the specialized field or college graduate with two (2) years of experience.

Level III - Includes five (5) years of professional experience and specialized education and training in the specialized field or college graduate with three (3) years of experience.
