Specific location: Head Office, Ellesmere Port

Hours of work: 8.30 am – 5.30 pm Monday to Thursday and 8.30 am – 3.30 pm on Fridays

Are you an experienced finance and payroll professional looking for a senior, hands-on role within the UK’s thriving homebuilding industry? Elan Homes – a leading, privately-owned house builder renowned for creating exceptional homes across the Midlands, North West, South West England, and North Wales – is seeking a Group Finance & Payroll Manager to join its Finance team on a full-time, permanent basis.

Reporting directly to the Group Finance Director, this pivotal group role is responsible for overseeing finance operations, payroll delivery, financial controls, and statutory compliance across the Elan Homes Group.

Your Role

Reporting to the Group Finance Director
, you will be responsible for:

  • Managing the day-to-day operation of the Group Finance function, including queries, payment runs, and approvals
  • End-to-end processing of weekly and monthly payrolls, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
  • Completion of payroll year-end processes including P35s, P14s, P60s, P11

    Ds, and Class 1A NICs
  • Maintaining robust financial controls and ensuring compliance with tax, statutory, and regulatory requirements
  • Preparing financial information for company year-end and audit processes
  • Administering and monitoring Help to Buy schemes
  • Processing, reviewing, and approving purchase orders
  • Contract chasing to ensure timely receipt, review, and approval of agreements
  • Reviewing and approving subcontractor payments, ensuring contractual and approval compliance
  • Managing company pension schemes, employee benefits, and insurance claims
  • Maintaining company statutory books and completing statutory returns
  • Implementing, reviewing, and improving finance and payroll policies and procedures
  • Monitoring and controlling company Barclaycard, petty cash, and expense systems
  • Undertaking ad hoc duties as required by the Group Finance Director and Managing Director
Key Qualifications & Experience

The successful candidate will have:

  • Extensive experience in a senior finance and payroll role, ideally within a group or multi-company environment
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles, payroll legislation, and tax compliance
  • Experience managing payrolls, pensions, benefits, and statutory reporting
  • Excellent IT skills, including Microsoft Excel and accounting/payroll systems
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines
  • A high level of integrity and the ability to handle confidential information
  • Strong communication and people management skills
  • Professional finance or payroll qualification (AAT, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent)
