Bus Drivers Wanted! Our driver training class starts July 7th and is a paid class!
POSITION TITLE: School Bus Driver, 3.33 hours
REPORTS TO: Transportation Director and/or Assistant Transportation Director
Bus drivers operate all types of school buses safely under various weather conditions, including fog, rain, hail, sleet, snow, and ice. They transport students and other authorized persons on regular, special program, field trips, extracurricular, and other authorized trips.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Install, service, or replace school bus equipment and accessories, such as fire extinguishers, warning kits, first aid kits, snow chains, etc.
- Perform operational and safety inspections of buses and related equipment.
- Clean and service buses, including interior cleaning and exterior washing; perform routine maintenance like fueling and coolant checks.
- Operate all controls as per Washington State School Bus Specification.
- Administer basic first aid, including CPR if qualified.
- Work effectively with students of different ages, abilities, and programs.
- Complete forms, records, trip tickets, behavior reports, and other clerical tasks accurately.
- Maintain punctuality and adhere to schedules.
- Dress appropriately and wear proper foot protection as per regulations.
- Respond positively to supervisor instructions and requests.
- Establish effective communication with students, parents, staff, and administrators.
- Supervise students during routes and maintain safety and order.
- Participate in staff meetings, training, and seminars.
- Comply with all relevant regulations and perform other duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Operate buses according to laws and district policies.
- Maintain and inspect buses regularly.
- Ensure passenger safety and report unsafe conditions.
- Complete all required reports and forms.
- Complete necessary driver training programs.
- Assist students with disabilities, including loading, unloading, and emergency evacuations.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Exposure to weather, chemicals, noise, and power tools. Ability to assist students with disabilities physically and safely operate the bus under various road conditions.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Washington State driver’s license;
Class B, CDL with endorsements - School bus driver authorization (per WAC 392-144)
- First aid and CPR certification if required
- Meet all drug, fingerprinting, and disclosure requirements
- Excellent driving record
- Physical ability to perform driving and related duties
- Bilingual skills preferred
