Driver – Monday, Wednesday through Saturday Position (based out of Richmond, VA)

Title: Driver

Department: Transportation

Reports To: Transportation Supervisor

Shift Start: 5 A.M.

Days Off: Sunday and Tuesday

Rate: $18–$20 per hour

Description

This position is responsible for delivering product to customers on assigned route, including deliveries in Richmond, VA, Virginia Beach, and Raleigh, NC.

Position Summary

The Driver delivers product to customers, ensures safety and compliance, and maintains accurate documentation throughout each trip.

Regular Assigned Duties and Responsibilities
  • Drive the vehicle safely and defensively.
  • Order your route based on the manifest you receive.
  • Perform pre‑trip inspections to ensure safe driving conditions and proper refrigeration.
  • Complete refrigeration logs as required.
  • Notify the supervisor if any aspect of your vehicle is not operating correctly.
  • Ensure that the product loaded on your truck is:
  • The correct product as listed on the load sheet or invoice.
  • Containers that hold the product are in good shape; do not mishandle, drop, or step on any containers.
  • The cargo is loaded in a manner that prevents damage before delivery.
  • Prior to leaving the dock, and anytime you are away from your vehicle, ensure your cargo door is closed and locked.
  • Check delivery times on your paperwork to ensure timely arrival; if you will not be on time, communicate the delay to your Route Supervisor or MOD.
  • Only stop at routed delivery destinations; no personal business is to be conducted during work hours (only lunch breaks are permitted).
  • Inform the office of returns, weight differences, or price discrepancies by phone; identify those issues on your paperwork and write the name of the person you spoke with before departing the customer’s location.
  • Constantly look for opportunities to increase customer satisfaction and resolve problems according to company procedures.
  • Demonstrate a serious interest in the customers’ business and build good relationships.
  • Fuel the truck prior to returning to the plant.
  • During Driver Check‑In, verify all returns; place them neatly in the designated area and ensure they have adequate ice or are placed in a freezer if frozen product.
  • Perform the post‑trip inspection required by the DOT and hand it in with the rest of your paperwork.
  • Ensure that your truck is left neat and clean.
  • Turn in all paperwork, checks, and cash to Driver Check‑In.
  • Park your truck where designated by Driver Check‑In.
Other Duties (may include but are not limited to)
  • Deliver late deliveries to customers, as necessary.
  • Take other drivers’ routes to cover call‑offs or vacation.
  • Fill in various warehouse positions when staffing is short.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma
  • Valid Maryland Driver's License with less than 3 points
  • Three to five years of delivery driver experience
  • Excellent problem‑solving and organizational skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to transfer attention from one task to another frequently without affecting performance
Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of seafood and proper temperature storage and handling regulations
  • Ability to use navigation tools to find customer locations or reroute for construction and traffic issues
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOT card
  • Must be able to read and write in English
  • Ability to speak Spanish is a plus
Physical Demands
  • While performing job duties, sit, stand, talk, and hear
  • Constantly use hands and fingers to feel, handle, or operate objects; reach with hands and arms
  • Occasionally stoop, kneel, crouch, and walk
  • Ability to sit for hours at a time
  • Ability to climb in and out of the delivery truck
  • Capable of lifting and/or moving up to 75 pounds occasionally
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus
Work Environment
  • Work mostly inside a truck cab and, when necessary, outside for brief periods delivering goods and inspecting the truck; exposure to wet, humid, hot, cold, snow conditions, fumes, airborne particles, and vibration
  • Noise level can range from quiet to loud
