Overview
Carter Machinery Company, the authorized Caterpillar dealer serving Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Delaware and Washington D.C., is hiring a Sales Engineer in Elkridge, Maryland. The Sales Engineer is responsible for supporting the Power Systems Outside Sales Team with technically accurate, detailed, and timely power generation proposals for generator sets, switch gear, fuel systems, and weatherproof enclosures. The Sales Engineer will work in a team setting with the outside sales team to win new business with competitive proposals.
Seeking candidates with a minimum three years sales and/or projects experience, preferably in Power Generation and/or Marine. Other similar industries will be considered;
Mechanical or Electrical Engineering Degree preferred.
- Support the Power Systems Outside Sales Team with technically accurate, detailed, and timely power generation proposals for generator sets, switch gear, fuel systems, and weatherproof enclosures.
- Collaborate with the outside sales team to win new business with competitive proposals.
- Interact with multiple disciplines (contractors, consultants, engineers, end-users) and act as a liaison with other sales team members and technical support to solve client problems.
- Develop and implement effective bid materials and sales/training presentations.
- Communicate effectively with the outside Sales Team and internal stakeholders; maintain strong written, verbal, and presenting skills.
- Travel and work hours as required by the job; maintain a positive customer experience.
- Minimum three years of sales and/or project experience, preferably in Power Generation and/or Marine; other similar industries will be considered.
- Mechanical or Electrical Engineering Degree preferred.
- Self-starter able to work with limited supervision; able to develop objectives, set priorities, and implement ideas in a timely manner.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work with diverse stakeholders.
- Experience dealing with multiple disciplines and ability to interpret data to make quick decisions.
- Ability to interact with all levels of personnel within the organization and with customers in a professional manner.
- Strong written, verbal, and presenting skills; ability to develop/implement effective bid materials and sales/training presentations.
- Excellent driving record; ability to travel as required.
- Proficiency with telephone and computer communications; ability to handle large volumes of work in a fast-paced environment.
Physical requirements must be met for the Sales Engineer job, including regularly being required to stand; walk and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and ability to adjust focus.

This is a sales position eligible for a base salary plus commissions with a probable income of more than $100,000. The final compensation is negotiable and subject to candidate's experience and skills.
