Substitute- Kitchen Aide​/Wheels Driver

Overview

As a substitute at the Senior Center, the person in this position will assist with safe food handling (preparation, packaging, receiving, storing, cleaning, and documentation) for all nutrition programs. Assist the cooks in the preparation of meal services for homebound members, congregate members, and guests. Responsible for the delivery of prepared meals within the Elko City limits.

• Support safe food handling and sanitation in accordance with food safety guidelines.
• Assist cooks with food preparation and with serving/packing of meals in an efficient and pleasant manner.
• Properly handle chemicals and cleaning compounds using personal protective equipment and following safety guidelines.
• Maintain clean and safe work areas in accordance with sanitary, safety, and infection control procedures.
• Deliver meals to designated homebound participants using the Meals on Wheels vehicle and ensure timely delivery to maintain meal temperature and integrity.
• Keep a daily log of meal delivery, meal temperatures, and other required reporting data.
• Unload and stock food items and supplies on shelves and in walk-in units after deliveries; withstand temperature variations in kitchen and walk-in areas.
• Perform daily cleaning duties including sweeping, mopping, and scrubbing, wearing protective equipment as instructed.
• Remove and properly dispose of dietary trash and clean receptacles; tolerate use of protective gear and odors associated with food waste.
• Utilize equipment safely and report any maintenance needs promptly.
• Attend department and center in-service training as scheduled.
• Interact respectfully with others and maintain positive public relations with members, guests, and staff.
• Adhere to workplace dress code and keep dietary storage areas neat and orderly.
• Perform basic maintenance on the Meals on Wheels vehicle, including fueling, oil checks, fluid levels, and tire pressure; keep the vehicle clean.
• Advise the office when the vehicle has maintenance problems.
• Cross-training and flexibility to respond to emergencies or staffing changes.

• No special experience or training required; however, experience in food service is preferred.
• Ability to understand, remember and carry out verbal and written instructions in English.
• Ability to demonstrate aptitude for successful performance of assigned tasks.
• Must possess a valid Nevada Driver’s License with a good driving record; must maintain record.
• Must have and maintain a clean record with good citizenship; the organization will obtain Records of Criminal History.
• ADS D Serv Safe mini certification upon hire.

• Regularly lift up to 50 pounds with assistance as needed.
• Stand for extended periods; climb a step stool; perform tasks requiring frequent bending, reaching, and lifting.
• Work in a generally clean environment with exposure to cleaning chemicals, odors, and noise; exposure to cold, heat and moisture; interruptions and unplanned events.
