Qualifications and requirements

A Medical Assistant (MA) who excels in this role:

* Assists with performing patient assessments and treatments under the supervision of a provider or nurse.

* Performs basic diagnostic procedures and specimen collection. Monitors and communicates changes in patient condition. Documents patient care given.

* Maintains equipment and medical supplies, including reordering, stocking, cleaning, and troubleshooting. Maintains examination areas.

* Performs administrative or clerical duties as assigned, including filing, reception, scheduling, data entry, and patient registration.

* Administers patient injections and takes patients' vitals.

* Obtains authorization for consultations, referrals, procedures, and ABNs per policies.

* Evaluates chart documentation for coding purposes, applies official guidelines, and determines and applies appropriate codes. Document all charges on the fee ticket to ensure 100% capture of all charges.
