Position Description

Carbon Handling & Refining General Supervisor – oversee the safe and efficient operation of the carbon handling and refinery areas of Carlin process. Provide daily leadership to technicians, ensure compliance with safety and environmental standards, and partner closely with Operations, Maintenance, Metallurgy, Health & Safety, Environmental, and Planning teams to maintain high performance and operational excellence.

Responsibilities
  • Lead, supervise, and develop carbon handling and refining technicians in the safe operation of carbon movement, elution, regeneration, and refining activities.
  • Conduct performance evaluations, oversee training progression, and ensure competency development for technicians operating the carbon handling and refining circuits.
  • Conduct shift lineouts, safety briefings, and crew communications to ensure clear expectations and operational alignment.
  • Build a high‑performing team culture grounded in safety, accountability, and continuous learning.
  • Ensure consistent implementation of company policies, procedures, and standards across all shifts.
  • Provide strategic direction for the safe and efficient operation of carbon movement, elution, regeneration, refining, and associated systems.
  • Oversee technical processes.
  • Review operational data, troubleshoot process deviations, and ensure parameters remain within specified limits.
  • Collaborate with metallurgy and operations to support gold recovery optimization.
  • Champion a strong safety culture; lead safety meetings, field verifications, incident reviews, and corrective action implementation.
  • Ensure compliance with MSHA regulations, company safety standards, and environmental policies.
  • Oversee proper handling of hazardous chemicals, caustic offloading safety procedures, and PPE compliance.
  • Maintain high levels of housekeeping and operational cleanliness across the carbon handling and refining circuits.
  • Identify preventative maintenance needs and emerging equipment issues through routine inspections.
  • Submit maintenance requests for mechanical, electrical, or instrumentation repairs; coordinate with maintenance to prioritize and resolve issues.
  • Support reliability initiatives tied to pumps, valves, piping, heat exchangers, boilers, furnaces, retorts, electrowinning cells and related systems.
  • Oversee crew schedules, shift coverage, and labor planning for carbon handling and refinery operations.
  • Ensure accurate operating data, sample records, production logs, and system entries through computer‑based record‑keeping.
  • Lead or support continuous improvement projects focused on safety, throughput, recovery, reagent consumption, and cost optimization.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Minimum 7–10 years of process operations experience, including significant exposure to carbon handling, gold recovery, refining, or similar processing circuits.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience supervising multiple employees or crews.
  • Strong understanding of carbon movement, elution systems, regeneration kilns, refining processes, reagent handling, pumps, valves, flow systems, and analytical sampling.
  • Ability to work rotating shifts of days and nights (essential function of carbon handling roles).
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to interpret and enforce safety, environmental, and operational standards.
Preferred
  • Familiarity with PI, Wonderware, and Delta

    V systems.
