Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Utilize quality engineering principles to assure the quality of supplied components
- Utilize experience and quality engineering principles to develop strategy and tools for supplier quality system as well as drive supply chain management continuous improvement
- Lead cross functional teams to execute root cause problem solving of quality events at production and service level and implement corrective/preventative actions
- Actively collaborate with Suppliers, purchasing, Engineering, and Plant Quality to lower the number of supplier non-conformances and reduce overall supplier PPM
- Identify high risk suppliers and develop/drive execution of a quality performance improvement plan
- Promote the use of Statistical Process Control (SPC) and continuous improvement techniques at suppliers to reduce variability and monitor process control
- Perform Quality System Audits at suppliers and initiate corrective actions to ensure adherence to our requirements as well as drive supplier development needs
- Support Onboarding new Suppliers in collaboration with sourcing team and supplier development to ensure that prospective suppliers are effectively assessed for their ability to dependably deliver quality parts, on time to the customer's needs
- Review supplier process change requests (PCR) and collaborate with cross functional teams to understand the risk as well as determine requirements for validation
- Review designs / components determined as high risk for correct identification of Key Product Characteristics (KPCs) and correct application of Geometric Dimension and Tolerancing to ensure measurement and manufacturing feasibility
- Collaborate with Suppliers and Engineering during design reviews to ensure Design for Manufacturability (DFM)
- Assist Suppliers to maintain 100% PPAP compliance for all Preproduction builds
- Train suppliers to effectively execute PPAPs, APQP and Corrective Actions on time
- Perform process and production readiness assessments at supplier facilities for high-risk suppliers/components. Report and drive closure to status and action plans on deficiencies
- Provide support and feedback to Business Units when determining existing supplier suitability for future business awards
- Proactively develop improvement activity to meet the department goals and corrective action effectiveness
- BS Degree in Engineering or Technical field
- Minimum 3 years of experience in quality engineering or manufacturing engineering with preferred knowledge of plastics, casting and machining or harnesses
- Strong technical problem-solving skills, including the ability to write technical reports
- Advanced knowledge of quality related tools including, but not limited to, SPC, APQP, 8D, PPAP, DOE, CAPA, MSA, PFMEA, Control Plans and Quality Systems
- Manufacturing and Assembly experience
- Knowledge of standard lean tools and concepts
- Strong facilitation and presentation skills.
- Skill in interpersonal communications, negotiation, and conflict resolution
- Perform successfully in a high change environment;
Able to quickly and effectively transition between tasks - Ability to work independently and with a team in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to prioritize multiple projects
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
- Aptitude to read and interpret blueprints
- Ability to use gages and measuring instruments to meet tolerance requirements
- Ability to multi-task and willingness to be flexible with time and schedule as to assure availability to customer or company as circumstances demand
- Communicate honestly, professionally and respectfully with others and demonstrates effective listening skills
- Capability to analyze, process and apply large amounts of complex information
- Utilize advanced statistical analysis and sound problem-solving skills when needed
- Ability to lead teams to produce the expected results for continuous improvement
