Design Engineer - Injection Molding | Plastics Packaging Elkhart, IN

As a Design Engineer, you will translate the customer needs into thermoforming packaging solutions by developing product and tooling designs and specifications. This is a high collaboration role where you will work with customers, account managers, new product development, tooling vendors, and internal teams.

• Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or a related field OR
• 2+ years product or tooling design experience
• Experience in 2D and 3D CAD systems, 3D printers and prototyping equipment.
• Prior thermoforming or injection molding experience in manufacturing (will consider hands on college/technical coursework in thermoforming/injection molding).
• Lite travel to customer sites, vendors, or trade shows

• Provide technical support to Regional Sales Managers, present design solutions, and build strong customer relationships.
• Lead new product design efforts from concept through sampling and customer approval, managing timelines and resources to meet project requirements.
• Develop complex CAD models for a variety of product lines, including:
  • Thermoformed rigid plastic trays, retainers, and clamshells
  • Flexible TPU pouches, liners, and clamshells
  • Rigid plastic backer cards
  • Sterile lidding
  • Design tooling models and drawings for production equipment in accordance with industry standards and best practices, including:
    • Roll-fed and sheet-fed automatic inline thermoforming equipment
    • Custom cut-and-weld inline equipment
    • Manual hydraulic presses
    • Rotary die-cutting presses
• Coordinate tooling specifications, performance standards, scheduling, and procurement by working with Pricing, Process Engineering, and internal and external tooling vendors.
• Approve parts, initiate and manage engineering change orders, and evaluate customer-driven design, print, or specification changes.
• Adhere to all safety procedures, ISO requirements, and internal work instructions.
