Job Description
Costing Analyst (Mechanical Engineering Focus)
Purpose
Work collaboratively with costing, purchasing, sales, accounting, and engineering teams to produce accurate and timely quotations. The Costing Analyst will apply strong analytical, technical, and mechanical engineering knowledge to evaluate drawings, materials, manufacturing processes, and production costs. The candidate must possess excellent analytical and computer skills, maintain schedules effectively, and communicate cross-functionally to support company objectives.

Responsibilities and Duties
- Validate quote requests from sales for completeness and feasibility.
- Review engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation to ensure accuracy and manufacturability.
- Analyze mechanical components, assemblies, and fabrication requirements to determine accurate cost structures.
- Confirm and identify part numbers on parts to be quoted.
- Identify and list all raw materials, hardware, and secondary operations required for quoting.
- Evaluate manufacturing processes including machining, welding, fabrication, forming, and assembly when preparing estimates.
- Perform cost analysis related to material selection, tolerances, finishes, and production methods.
- Request material and outsourced service costs from purchasing.
- Collaborate with engineering to clarify technical discrepancies or design concerns impacting cost.
- Suggest cost-saving alternatives based on material properties, manufacturability, and process improvements.
- Manage, print, and copy drawings/prints for estimating purposes.
- Maintain and update estimating files, cost databases, and historical pricing records.
- Maintain a structured schedule to ensure quotes are completed on time.
- Enter all part numbers and descriptions into Microsoft Dynamics - NAV.
- Assist with continuous improvement initiatives related to cost accuracy and process efficiency.
Mechanical Engineering Skills & Technical Competencies
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, blueprints, and GD&T.
- Understanding of manufacturing processes (CNC machining, sheet metal fabrication, welding, casting, forming, assembly).
- Knowledge of materials (steel, aluminum, stainless alloys, plastics) and their properties.
- Familiarity with tolerances, fits, surface finishes, and their cost implications.
- Basic understanding of mechanical design principles and part functionality.
- Experience with CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Solid Works, Inventor) preferred.
- Understanding of BOM (Bill of Materials) structures.
- Ability to perform engineering calculations related to dimensions, weights, volumes, and production times.
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing and cost-reduction strategies is a plus.
Qualifications
- High school diploma required;
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field preferred. - Minimum three years of experience in engineering, manufacturing, or costing environment.
- Strong analytical and mathematical skills.
- Proficient computer skills;
Microsoft Dynamics – Nav (preferred). - Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
- Mechanically inclined with hands‑on understanding of manufacturing environments.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work cross-functionally.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

- Monday through Friday
- 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
