Description
The Special Education Assistant I assists the teacher in the classroom by tutoring, monitoring student performance in mainstream classes, supervising students, and may provide clerical assistance. May provide communication between teacher, student and student's peers, tutoring and facilitating language development of students.
Starting pay is $21.61 per hour. For additional details, please see the attached master agreement.
Job Summary- High school degree, GED, or equivalent experience.
- Holds one of the following to meet the Highly Qualified Paraprofessional requirement or will obtain within the probationary period:
- At least two years of college credits (usually 60 credits in Minnesota)
- Obtain the PELSB Paraprofessional Credential
- Passing score of 460 (or higher) on the Para Pro Assessment
- Passing score of 65% (or higher) for the Instructional Support test and 70% (or higher) for the Knowledge and Application test on the Minnesota Service Cooperatives Para Educator Proctored Test
- The hiring manager reserves the right to request a skills test prior to hire.
- Ability to use office equipment; experience in current office software desirable.
- Training and/or experience in the use of computer equipment may also be required.
- Works well with students, including perceiving and dealing with their functions as it pertains to school performance.
- Willingness to accept and follow direction.
- Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.
- Ability to physically transfer or restrain students.
- Ability to maintain accurate and timely records to support special needs student's Individual Educational Plan (IEP).
- Working knowledge of sign language skills (SEE, PSE, and/or ASL) may be required when appropriate.
- First aid skills and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification may also be required.
- Ability to work overtime including evenings, weekends and holidays.
