Position Overview
The Illinois Department of Transportation seeks to hire Automotive Mechanics. Under the immediate supervision of the Operations Supervisor, the Automotive Mechanic maintains and repairs a fleet of vehicles at a field headquarters and ensures compliance with departmental safety rules.
Essential Functions- Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of high school, or coursework in vehicle repair and maintenance, or completion of an approved training course.
- Requires experience necessary to qualify as a skilled mechanic.
- Prefers experience and extensive knowledge in the use of mechanical hand tools, machinery, and testing equipment used in equipment and motor repair, including the ability to diagnose, adjust, and correct mechanical issues.
- Prefers knowledge of occupational hazards and applicable safety measures.
