Job Description

RRD is looking for an energetic, highly motivated team member to join our team of Press Operators at our Elk Grove Village facility.

Job Title: Press Operator 3

Responsibilities
  • Operate web printing press to print quality production, maintain quality of product, lead and direct press crew, maintain press, and perform other operation duties as directed by supervisors.
  • Set up, adjust, operate, and maintain a Litho Press, In-line double web press, Harris M10, and a mini web 6 color web printing press or multi-color offset press to print single-, two-, and/or multi-color work with critical color values and registration requirements.
  • Review job specifications to determine press setup according to the imposition of the run.
  • Perform make-ready tasks (hanging plates or installing cylinders, examining plates/cylinders for imperfections, prepping blankets, adjusting tension and registration).
  • Make necessary color corrections and/or press adjustments to meet quality specifications.
  • Clean, lubricate, and maintain the press; perform minor repairs and replace worn/broken parts; perform periodic maintenance per manufacturer recommendations.
  • Promote a safe and injury-free work environment; act as a leader in safety.
  • Oversee all aspects of press operation and press crew; ensure overall quality of printed products including color reproduction and imaging quality.
  • Determine when product is suitable for saving and produce sample-quality products.
  • Monitor crew progress and provide accurate documentation of time, materials, impressions, waste, and run speeds.
  • Communicate effectively with other crews and departments (scheduling, prepress, maintenance).
  • Coordinate make-ready process by reviewing job information, establishing a make-ready plan, and assigning responsibilities to crew members.
  • Maintain a Preventive Maintenance Program for the press and use the “Request For Action” system to notify maintenance of issues.
  • Share expertise and train other employees as assigned.
  • Handle other responsibilities as required.
Qualifications
  • Previous experience as a Press Operator 2 or 3 in Direct Mail or a similar industry.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of techniques, procedures, materials, specifications, equipment, and safety requirements to set up, adjust, operate, and maintain equipment to produce single-, two-, and/or multi-color work to critical tolerances.
  • Skill in mechanical procedures to set up, adjust, maintain, and repair equipment for single-, two-, and/or multi-color work.
  • Ability to read and understand job specifications and determine appropriate press usage, settings, and materials.
  • Skill in using a micrometer for mounting and aligning printing plates.
  • Strong communication skills; troubleshooting/problem-solving abilities; mechanical aptitude; ability to coordinate activities of crew members.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 7–10 years of web press printing experience.
  • Knowledge of inline finishing, die cutting, inserters, imagers, color, and register.
Shifts

7:00 AM to 7:00 PM; 3 days on, 4 days off rotating shift with 8 weeks before shift differential of $3.00. 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM; 3 days on, 4 days off rotating shift with 8 weeks before shift differential of $3.00.

Compensation and Benefits

Hourly rate disclosure:
The pay range for this role at the noted location is $30.90 to $44.60 per hour. The actual rate may vary based on education, skills, experience, performance, shift, and location. Total compensation may include overtime, shift differential, call-in, and stand-by pay.
